Ben is the Earth Kingdom native and immediate successor of Avatar Korra. Born and raised in Republic City, he tried to master all four bending arts: Earthbending, firebending, waterbending, and airbending with the specialized bending techniques, along with the spiritual aspects of the bending arts. After a long time training and practicing, he finally mastered Airbending, an opposite of his natural element. With the help and assistance of the spirits of Wan and Korra, Ben gained the ability to energybend, and after connected with his past lives, he gained the capacity to enter the Avatar State at will, making him became a fully realized Avatar.

Ben was born in a multicultural family. His father is an earthbender from Earth Kingdom, and his mother is an airbender. At the age of ten, he was told about his status as the Avatar by the Order of the White Lotus.
