Baoshou Er is a First Lieutenant under the command of Captain Shuaige Qishi, and Captain Qishi's right hand man. Baoshou Er is a supporting character in Avatar: Civil Strife.

History[]

Not much is known about Baoshou's youth, at sixteen, he enlisted into the military and served eighteen years in the army. Baoshou served in seven tours and received the rank of First Lieutenant. Now he's with a good friend in northern Pingyao serving and working with Captain Shuaige Qishi as his right-hand man. Baoshou's life outside of the army is also unknown although he's made mention that he's married. As a master earthbender alongside Qishi, Baoshou spends his time training new recruits in the encampment and preparing them for war.

Cheaters Never Prosper[]

Since the first day of training Baoshou along with Shuaige trained their soldiers separately, Captain Qishi dealt with the earthbenders while First Lieutenant Er with the non-benders. Baoshou witnessed Shuaige training the recruits in a way he's planned but with Avani's impatience she seemed to be the only one stepping out of line and has rebelled the authority of Captain Qishi. They've argued with one another about her training amongst the others. He focused on teaching the recruits in archery and fighting with a bo staff. He was impressed by Zuqiu's skill in archery later learning that Zuqiu's father was a veteran of war and former Captain of the Suzhou City Provincial Guard.

During their second day of training he switched Avani's partner from Zuqiu to Taobing on purpose to challenge her. Taobing was a former Lei Tai champion, eventually toward the end of the day Shuaige had everyone spar their partner. Avani had to spar with Taobing, who had her beat and with Avani determination to win she cheated. He was ordered to escort Avani to the Ring of Punishment, where he witnessed Shuaige strike Avani sixty times with a bo staff as a form of punishment.

The Ambush[]

Baoshou and the others woke up the next morning to retrieve the shipment that needed to be delivered. They spent a total of almost two days delivering the goods to Taiyuan, the capital of Pingyao province. Along the way, Captain Qishi's company ran into the hands of the champion of the Meng, Gan and his brigade. Who furthered themselves into enemy territory, Qishi's group was ambushed by Gan, when an archer killed an earthbender on ostrich horseback. Captain Qishi's company initiated battle after this ambush and they fought with little to no injuries. When Gan revealed the numbers of his army Baoshou begged Avani to do something.

Baoshou ordered Avani to do something, when Gan showed his strength in numbers causing Avani to trigger her Avatar State and unleashed an earthquake, causing fear into the hearts of the barbarian soldiers and their leader. During that time Fangzhu attempted to assist the Avatar with helping create stronger winds to blast the enemies away. Gan's brigade fled with only one hundred of them remaining to sacrifice themselves in a distraction. Avani killed half of them solely while the rest fled, Shuaige ordered her to cease the fighting and banned her from confronting them alone.

Abilities[]

Baoshou was born an earthbender and only trained enough to know how to fight, when he enlisted he was trained to be a better earthbender. Through skill in the battlefield over the course of time he was deemed a master earthbender after he served eighteen years in the army. Baoshou is also proficient in blunt weapons, his meteor hammers are used for close-quarter combat and sometimes he uses them to enhance his earthbending. Baoshou is skilled with a bo staff and archery, he trains the non-bending recruits in Captain Qishi's company.
