The Baojun Yan are the secret police force that serves Earth King Yao and crown Prince Shahuang in Ba Sing Se. They're minor characters in the fanon Avatar: The Legacy of Rong Yan.
History[]
Not much is known about their history other than the Baojun Yun was founded by Earth King Yao after a few attempts on his life were made by his rebellious court of nobles. When Yao began to tax his nobles with more money for his armies and equipment, several rebels planned an assassination. Each one being unsuccessful, Yao ended up hiring mercenaries to protect him.
The mercenaries eventually evolved into the Baojun Yun, the eyes and ears of the Earth King. Their purpose to serve Yao and prevent an assassination attempt. Specializing in rooting out opposition against Yao, kidnapping citizens in the night to torture and reeducate them.
The Baojun Yan was responsible for a lot of corruption that happened in the Lower Ring especially the terribly treated Lower Ring citizens. Those who were the Resistance often hunted down men who were apart of the Baojun Yan when they were alone because in a force the Baojun Yan was a force to be reckoned with.
They were known to serve Shahuang as well when the opposition realized that the crown prince was exactly like his father. Wang wasn't protected by the Baojun Yan despite being Yao's second born.
Shahuang's Assassination[]
The Baojun Yun failed to protect Prince Shahuang when Anana and the resistance planned a hit on him when they snuck into the palace. The Resistance's men went in and assassinated the prince as a step forward into removing Yao from the throne. They knew even though they could force him to abdicate his throne Shahuang was still in the way preventing Wang from taking the throne.
The men successfully killed their targets but failed to escape in time being killed off by the Baojun Yan.
Disbanding the Baojun Yan[]
When Wang forced his father to abdicate the throne with the use of the Da Xianzhang which was created by Avatar Xi Tong, he dissolved the organization his father founded. Saying he didn't need a mercenary's help, he ordered the Baojun Yan to stand down when they came to Yao's aid when they saw he had been coned by Wang's royal guards.

- Baojun Yan means 'tyrant's eyes' in Chinese.
- The Baojun Yan are essentially like the Dai Li but serve one specific Earth King.
- In the original story the Baojun Yan didn't exist.
