Princess Azula Pathuk (née Caldera) is a dominant firebender born as a princess in the Fire Nation Royal Family. She was the secondborn child of Fire Lord Ursa and Prince Ozai and the younger sister of Zuko. Following her mother's remarriage to Bato, Azula had two younger half-sisters: Maya and Melody II. Following the end of the Hundred-Year-War, Azula married Katara, and they had two daughters: Amaya and Kida. By extension she is the sister-in-law of Sokka, the daughter-in-law of Hakoda and Kya, the granddaughter of Azulon, Ilah, Aidan, and Serafina and the great-granddaughter of Sozin, Lisanna, Roku, and Melody.
Like Zuko, Azula bears an almost exact resemblance to her mother and alongside her older brother, Sokka, Katara, Toph, and Aang, she also played a key role in defeating her father and restored balance to the world.

From an early age, Azula was kind, sweet, and caring, adoring her older brother and their mother.
Azula was the second-born (85 AG) of Fire Lord Ursa and Prince Ozai; born on the Summer Solstice at noon. From an early age, like Zuko, she was shunned and disdained by their father, the only familial support coming from her mother, brother, grandfather, and cousin, who loved her just the way she was.
Ursa interacted little with her family and was emotionally and verbally abusive towards her husband and children, lowering their confidence. As a result of this, Azula and Zuko became wary of Ursa and didn't speak to her unless she spoke to them first, favoring more time with Ozai.
Banishment and life at the Southern Water Tribe[]
When her brother was ten and she was eight, Ursa killed her father with poison, crafted by Ozai, and took the throne from her older brother as per her deceased father's alleged dying wish. Following Ursa's coronation, she banished her, Zuko, and Oza, telling them that the only way for them to come home was for them to find the Avatar, but not before divorcing from Ozai and stripping the three of their royal titles.
Ozai being the current incarnation of the Avatar has been a well-kept secret between Ozai, his parents, and his children and together, they fled to the South Pole for a fresh start. Upon arriving at the frigid land, Zuko and Azula took to the ice and snow like a turtle-seal to water; thriving and prospering in the icy temperatures.
Ozai, Zuko, and Azula met Hakoda and his family, eventually settling into the village as though they were always apart of it. Bato, Hakoda's best friend, took an interest in Ozai and after a while, the two eventually married after three years of dating, with Bato becoming her's and Zuko's stepfather and Ozai becoming pregnant with their new baby sister three years later. On Azula's 9th birthday, Bato gifted her with a special dagger that was a keepsake from his own mother.
Book 1[]
Six years after arriving at the South Pole, Azula continued to remain in the village to help Ozai, who was about three or four months pregnant at the time, with chores, while Zuko went out to help Sokka and Katara with fishing. However, she, Ozai, and the rest of the villagers, were shocked to see the trio return with an airbender named Aang, who explained that he was here to help the Avatar learn airbending.

Azula loves Katara very much, and would do anything to make sure that her submissive was happy and cared for. Her romantic feelings for Katara grew over the course of the war, and they eventually bloomed into love. The two shared a kiss in Ba Sing Se as the sun set, and began a long-term romantic relationship.

Sometime after the end of the war, Azula married Katara and they had two daughters, the eldest, Amaya, born with the blessing of Tui and La, and Kida, born with pale blue eyes.
