Anana is the Water Tribe Avatar succeeding Avatar Kwan Chun, and preceding before Avatar Ku Tei. Anana also has a chapter dedicated to her life story in a summary, in the fanon Avatar: The Legacy of Rong Yan.

History[]

Early Life[]

Born in the Southern Water Tribe, to a family of peasants. Anana was the only child in her family. At the age of four, she was to be taken to the city's kashim. The Southern Water Tribe shamans tested the Southern Water Tribe babies to find the Avatar.

There was a boy who lived next door to Anana named Tuuluuwaq, he bullied her constantly when she was a child. He was an only child, and since he really had no friends at such an early age of eight. He picked on five-year-old Anana.

On her sixteenth birthday, the Southern Water Tribe's elder shaman announced to the community that Anana was the reincarnation of Avatar Kwan Chun. Learning of what had to happen she had to leave her family, and friends behind to travel the world and master the four elements, as an Avatar should.

Chief Nitakaichuk gifted Anana an arctic dire wolf as a gift to use as a mount, she named her animal guide Amarok. Who served her until the wolf's death eighty years later. She was to be taken to Gaipan in the Omashu province where an escort of guards would take her to the Oma Kingdom capital, Omashu.

Omashu[]

She lived in Omashu province for two years while mastering earthbending, where she lived in the palace with Earth King Peng Zu. She mastered earthbending under the watchful eye of the King, where Cuzhuang her trainer taught her earthbending.

They became great friends, eventually he sent a letter to his cousin Pang, in the Qiangda Kingdom's capital, Ba Sing Se. Anana wanted to change the state of the kingdom, The Qiangda kingdom went into decline under Yao's rule.

Rallying against Yao[]

Anana learned that Yao's armies killed her predecessor Avatar Kwan Chun when they invaded the Gangdise Shan mountains where the Baiyan Air Temple was nestled. Yao banned Air Nomads from entering Qiangda Kingdom lands and wanted to evict them by force out of the Gangdise Shan mountain range and the Shang Qiao islands.

He believed the treaties made by the Shang and Xia Kingdoms no longer meant anything when the Zhou Kingdom defeated both during the warring periods of the first Earth Empire. All three unified under the Zhou banner becoming the first Earth Kingdom. The decline of the kingdom resulted in the Bai Da and Chengdu provinces to secede from the Qiangda Kingdom and remain neutral. While the Oma Kingdom saw this as an advantage they forced Qiangda military out of a few provinces gaining territory to invade the capital.

Even his court of nobles rebelled against him a few of them hiring assassins to remove Yao from power. At least then they believed they could control the crown prince, in a quick ditch effort, Yao founded the Baojun Yan, a secret police force loyal to only Yao and Shahuang.

Yao would not listen and often defy the advice given to him by the Earth Sages, because he only trusted the Baojun Yan for advice. He ignored most of the court told him about raising tax and fighting against the Air Nomads. The court also tried telling Earth King Yao not to fight with the High Sage of the Earth sages but he didn't listen to that either and so, he got himself into a lot of trouble because he didn't listen. Yao liked the Baojun Yan, he felt like they trusted him and that he could trust them more.

This would waste a lot of money especially since Yao couldn't exactly fight after more provinces refused to follow his orders, causing them to be taken by enemy forces or have the governors politically shift to Oma Kingdom.

Anana lived with Cuzhuang's unattractive and strange cousin Pang, who helped her get a job in the same tea shop where Pang worked. There she met Rari, the leader of the resistance group working to remove Earth King Yao, and Prince Shahuang from the line of succession. She became friends, with Rari and his girlfriend Panni. Together they recruited more citizens of the city to rally against the Earth King. Later one evening, a year later, they visited a library in the university where they discovered a book containing a copy of the Da Xianzhang, a document written by the 37th Earth King Xi of the Tong Dynasty.

Yao didn't like most of the clauses in the Da Xianzhang. The document stated things like:

- Every citizen has a right to a free trial

- The king is not allowed to demand money from his nobility

- The temple had the final say on who should be appointed as their officials

- No widow will be forced to remarry

Earth King Yao raised taxes on all his nobles and made them pay a LOT of money. All this money he collected, so he could prepare an army to take over the Gangdise Shan mountain range and the Shang Qiao islands from the Air Nomads. Every time he lost a battle, he needed more money to buy equipment and men. All this money was a waste, as Yao didn't actually win any of the wars and lost most of his land to the Oma Kingdom. Every time he raised taxes, he would times the original amount by 4. For example, if it started at 28 silver pieces, it would then go up to about 110 silver pieces! If the nobles wouldn't pay up, Yao would have the Baojun Yan torture them until they gave everything they had.

The Da Xianzhang was created in 1081 BG, two years into Xi's reign which was a result of the previous ruler Regent Lord Baojun who ruled the Qiangda Kingdom with corrupt motives. He himself enforced and followed the rules set by the document he created and after he abdicated the throne to Regent Lord Qici who ruled until Xi's nephew Qiangda Avanindra became of age.

Earth King Wang Rises to Power[]

Even if they removed Yao, Shahuang was still the heir to the throne being Yao's firstborn. Rari and Anana interviewed several candidates even the governors of Bai Da and Chengdu who refused to take the throne. Governor Tangchi of Bai Da, suggested them to choose Yao's second-born Wang, who is the complete opposite of Shahuang.

Mercenaries were hired by Rari to kidnap Shahuang into forcing Yao to give up the throne in a ransom for Shahuang's life. In the end, the mercenaries failed but only succeeded in assassinating Shahuang and were killed by the Baojun Yan. Yao was distraught over the death of Shahuang, his son Wang communicated with Rari and Anana and felt no remorse for the death of his older brother. He knew while unfortunate it had to happen for him to take the throne, with the original Da Xianzhang in hand Wang, forced his father to abdicate the throne and unofficially crowning himself the new Earth King. As a first act he dissolved the Baojun Yan, had his father arrested and imprisoned for breaking the treaties placed by the Xia and Shang kingdoms and for ignoring the Da Xianzhang that prevented an Earth King from being a tyrant. Wang sent word to the four air temples allowing Air Nomads to enter Qiangda Kingdom territory.

Love and Enlightenment[]

In the Fire Nation, she met her firebending master Zhu Huan, who dueled and defeated one of the masters chosen by Fire Lord Haien. He helped Anana master firebending and taught her how to generate lightning. Over the course of this, they fell in love and Huan Zhu planned to marry her but held back realizing he was being selfish.

When she traveled to the Sum Pa Air Temple, the Mother Superior who led the Council of Elders told her that love was a distraction and a sin of the physical form that would only poison her and prevent her from her destiny. She mastered airbending and the Avatar State in two years achieving enlightenment which allowed her to project her spirit to those she was spiritually linked to.

Returning Home[]

After years, of traveling the world and mastering the four elements, Anana returned to the Southern Water Tribe. She learned that many of the children she grew up with now had important jobs, Shesh became the chief and married Miki. Hakoda became Shesh's hunter, and Tuuluuwaq became the head waterbending instructor in Iqaluit.

Her other friend became known as the healing instructor of the whole Southern Water Tribe. She taught those who wanted to master healing.

Tuuluuwaq was very into the art of waterbending. He was very curious on the sub arts that fell into its category, like bending plants, healing and snow. Eventually, Anana and Tuuluuwaq fell in love. Tuuluuwaq had crafted Anana a betrothal necklace, and they were engaged, for two months before they could have the wedding.

Soon they had gotten married, and nine months later they had a son. Anana volunteered to help Tuuluuwaq, with his class if needed. Together they became the official waterbending instructors. Teaching people of all ages, Anana teaching the children in the mornings, and in the afternoons she taught any willing to learn how to heal.

Tuuluuwaq would teach teenagers and adults at night. Since they were more advanced in their lessons they had trained with enhanced waterbending. Tuuluuwaq would often teaching healing as well, but let that more for his wife to do so.

Tuuluuwaq Discovers Bloodbending[]

At one point in Anana's lifetime, her husband Tuuluuwaq was hunting with other waterbenders and warriors in the arctic wilderness of the South Pole. He and his men came across a cavern where they found a herd of polar leopards.

Killing the whole herd except the cubs, for reasons of domestication. Tuuluuwaq came across a skeleton of a human, most likely that of his race. The skeleton was holding onto a book, Tuuluuwaq had taken the book and carried it back to the Southern city.

Studying day and night, not attending his classes, it was up to Anana to teach those for their night sessions as well, taking young Nanuq along, and teaching him waterbending as well. Tuuluuwaq never showed up to classes for the next three months.

At night, he would travel to the wilderness and practice under the full moon, the art of bloodbending. He bloodbent arctic seals, polar leopards, or any of the fauna there. One day he thought if it was possible to bloodbend a person.

He began to attend his classes, one night under a full moon he thought he would share his discovery with his pupils. One of his star pupils volunteered to be the first human to be bloodbent. Making stiff movements with his arm, he controlled his student like a puppet. Making him move from side to side, lifting him off the ground to a maximum of five feet, and releasing him.

Those of his students who wished to learn the ability, Tuuluuwaq taught a class on the nights of a full moon, and he took his students out in the arctic wilderness and trained them. Never returning for days, Anana was worried for him. Tuuluuwaq decided to teach Anana bloodbending as well, only her grip was the most powerful.

Tuuluuwaq's students and wife all became masters of bloodbending under a year. Tuuluuwaq decided to show his abilities to the public. During moon festivals, Tuuluuwaq and his class would make puppet shows as Tuuluuwaq and other students bloodbent volunteering students. Using it as a joke to make the crowd laugh.

The chief suggested that Tuuluuwaq and students were to become a police force in the city. When there was a full moon, if there were any criminals running about at the time, to bloodbend them and have another officer tie him up.

Because of this crime rate within the Southern Water Tribe city lowered a lot. Fewer people became criminals everyone feared the guards. Tuuluuwaq and guards began to go insane. Having the immense ability to control someone is what made them break inside them.

The War of Blood[]

One night Tuuluuwaq held the chief hostage for throwing his brother in prison. By knocking out his guards using bloodbending, and bloodbending the chief himself. Anana quickly ran out of her home to face her husband. She was ordered to kill her husband. She knew exactly what she had to do.

She came to defeat her husband, she exited the Avatar State. She couldn't kill her own love. She let him go and he ran away, with his former students who had become guards. This allowed Tuuluuwaq to found the Cult of Atshen. A cult of bloodbenders who worship the ancient Water Tribe god Atshen.

She heard reports that her husband and his men were located on the Chaopin islands in the Oma Kingdom. She meditated and spoke to Xi Tong, he shared with her the ability to use Energybending. On her trek to the island with her masters, they discovered the ice fortress crashed on the main island.

After defeating several guards, she saw her husband. He began to fight his wife, giving the intention that he wanted to kill his wife for following him. He began to lift her to the air with bloodbending, her former love interest Huan Zhu generated lightning shocking Tuuluuwaq allowing Anana to cone him in earth and remove his bending.

The chief had placed a law, where no one was to speak of bloodbending ever again or perform the form either. They renamed bloodbending "the forbidden art". Those who broke the law were immediately accused of being a forbidden one, and thrown into prison for a year, and fined one thousand gold pieces. This also created an event known as the Forbidden Cultist Trials, sometimes neighbors would accuse others as a bloodbender, without a trial Chief Shesh ordered to have those benders executed. This cost a lot of lives to be lost.

Two weeks after Forbidden Cultist Trials have passed by and Anana had left to teach her class. When she returned home Tuuluuwaq was nowhere to be seen. She searched for her husband, wishing the worst. Royal guards had escorted her to where Tuuluuwaq drowned.

They carried the body off, and the next day he was buried. Going through his things she had found a note, that Tuuluuwaq had left behind before he decided to take his life away. She sat in a corner and cried.

Chaos and Order[]

Anana later learned about the conflict occurring in the Oma Kingdom, Zu Peng had twins she never met. Hidden from the public eye for the deformity they were born with, which happened to be rare. He thought his children would be cast as monsters and even stripped the twins of their birthright, he knew his dynasty was ending.

Hundun and Dinggou were born conjoined twins both were the heir to the Zu dynasty throne in Omashu. After they grew tired of being hidden from the world they held their father hostage. Taking the throne an occupying it for a total of two weeks before Kuiwu son of Cuzhuang, notified Anana of what was taking place in Omashu.

In 830 BG, Anana battled Hundun and Dinggou masters of earthbending for the throne and freeing Peng. The outcome of the event critically injured Dinggou where he hung by a thread nearing death. Anana punished the conjoined twins imprisoning them into the Spirit World, although this prevented Hundun and Dinggou from experiencing death.
