Ashuna is a minor character in the fanon Avatar: The Legacy of Rong Yan. Ashuna is the spiritual leader of the city's kashim in the Northern Water Tribe.
History[]
Not much is known of Ashuna other than she came from a family of healers and shaman. She took the rank of Master and Spiritual Leader from her father. She trained in the art of healing for fifteen years.
She was also studying under her father as his apprentice when he died of old age she assumed the position and ran the city's kashim with her best friend Yugoda. Eventually, they both brought their children into the mix, Misu, Ashuna's daughter is the apprentice studying under her mother. While Yakone is a young seer studying under his mother.
Ashuna's job involves preparing bodies of the dead for burial like she prepared Amak's body with a series of traditional rituals that protect the physical body and spirit of the deceased. She studies the body to find the cause of death before the process of rituals begins. She with the help of her friend Mamittuk discovered the cause of Amak's death.
When they discovered it was the white jade plant she disclosed the information to Amak's uncle and father. The rituals consisted of Ashuna grabbing a vase of oil and massaging the oil onto the body of Amak. The oil was a mixture of herbs from the Spirit Oasis and fish blood, grounded animal bones and dried polar leopard liver and an arctic jackal-fox's pelt.
Awhile while the elder would throat sing and the apprentice beat drums while incense burned in the room. All these would protect the body and spirit one way or another. The pelt of the jackal-fox ritual was strictly for royals. It was known to be the armor they'd wear as they traveled through the path on the way to the Spirit World. A various number of other rituals were performed as well. Finally, each member was allowed to kiss the cheek of the deceased as a final goodbye.
Ashuna's job also consists of predicting the new year when it arrives, a room is overcrowded with the masses. The Spiritual Leader receives visions or dreams the weeks before the New Year Festival and then reveals what the gods offer to the people for the year. Assisting others into prayer, explaining dreams and sometimes even giving advice to others. She receives all gravely ill patients to heal if the city healers fail to do so.
