Airen Shengqi is an earthbending soldier under the command of Captain Shuaige Qishi, and a nobleman from the lower sections of the Upper Ring. Airen is one of the main characters of the story Avatar: Civil Strife.
History[]
Airen was born to House Shengqi in 1951 BG, to Lord Yingxiong and Lady Lianhua making him the secondborn child of the family. Lord Yingxiong acquired his nobility rank through his achievements on the battlefield, after reaching his sixtieth year on Shanshen he retired. Being awarded ton of medals, now he spends the rest of his days as an owner of a restaurant chain in the Middle and Lower Rings of Ba Sing Se where he makes most of his wealth.
During his childhood he often rivaled with his older cousin, Congxiong. The yearly family holidays when his family would visit Congxiong's family in Taiyuan or vice versa. He found himself to be a victim of Congxiong, he'd often also bully him. Congxiong was caught by a servant of the Shengqi family, which led to Lu Su punishing him. However the constant bullying went on for years. Yingxiong was absent for most of Airen's childhood as he was off at war fighting to keep his family and his people safe.
Because of this Airen and his older sister were allowed to live in the luxury of the Upper Ring. Airen was placed in an academy to master the element of earthbending as his family could afford it. At the age of 15, he graduated from his bending academy and spent another year in school finishing his education studies. He spent seventeen years as a regional manager that frequented the Lower and Middle Rings supervising the different locations of his family's food chain.
At the age of 33, Airen tired of the restaurant owner lifestyle and enlisted into the Haijun Kingdom Army. It is rare and not required by law for nobility to enlist into the army or navy. However, Airen wanted to see something new and serve his nation proud leaving behind his family's business he trained in the Military Quarter of the Upper Ring for several months before he was shipped out for war. Over the course of three years, Airen has obtained the rank of specialist has fought in a few provinces around the Kingdom and has over eighty kills confirmed.
Airen is thirty-six-years-old and his parents are trying to force him into matchmaking to marry a nice noblewoman. Although Airen has a secret the only reason he's refused to marry is because Airen is gay. But the Haijun Kingdom has made his choice of orientation illegal and to prevent himself from losing his life he has learned to hide it. There are times where Airen finds himself to be paranoid and so far he's stayed out of the vision of the Yanzhao.
Skirmish in the Savanna[]
Airen along with Captain Qishi's company were ambushed by Gan and his brigade, they were escorting wagons full of explosives and weapons to the city of Taiyuan. Suddenly, a soldier was killed by an archer which caused Avani and Airen to initiate combat. Airen held his own as he showed off his skills of earthbending and killed a few men adding to his kill score.
Family Reunion[]
Airen's arrival in Taiyuan gave him flashbacks as to why he didn't like coming to the city. Taiyuan is his mother's hometown while he grew up in Ba Sing Se. His family often visited his maternal family growing up during the yearly holidays. His cousin Congxiong was his rival and often picked on Airen when they were children. All the bad memories entered his mind and his day was ruined, Airen attempted to stay out of the public's eye while staying in the city.
However during Shuaige and Avani's meeting with Governor Wuqi and his stewardess Lady Biaoqin, did his aunt learn that Airen was inside the city. She sent summons for her nephew, when the news reached the Defense Sector. A carriage showed up to retrieve Airen from the barracks and delivered to the Northern Tusuzu Sector. After a few hours of travel he finally entered his aunt's estate where a sense of familiarity entered his visage.
Yima immediately ordered for her servants to remove his armor and dress Airen in Congxiong's "party" robes while he enjoys his stay in her home. When Airen reached the top of the steps he came face to face with Congxiong who was looking for his robes and asked his mother. The two had a staredown that was broken up by Yima, she chewed out her son for his behavior. Airen was taken to a guest room where he was dressed, the servants notified him that dinner would soon come.
At dinner he and Yima feasted while Congxiong was absent to supper. Eventually his cousin came late and joined his family for their meal. After Yima departed for the evening, Congxiong and Airen shouted at each other at the dining table. With Congxiong leaving without eating, he had better things to do and that was going to the Den to his social gathering of which was in the Avatar's honor. Airen eventually left on his own to the same gathering to accompany his friend the Avatar.
The Reveler's Den[]
Airen eventually shows up to the Den where he runs into Avani by coincidence. And joins her inside for the gathering once inside he makes eye contact with his cousin. Seeing the rage in Congxiong's eyes when he gazes upon Airen's face. Congxiong devises a quick plan to sedate Airen with a mucuna flavored hookah. Originally Airen buys a rose-flavored hookah to start Avani on something light since it would be her first time smoking hookah.
Congxiong's middlewoman ordered for the switch, when the employees gave Airen the hookah, he took a few inhales and noticed it was not the flavor he ordered. By then it was too late, he felt the inescapable high that came with the mucuna leaves shisha. He was sedated and unable to help her if she was in danger. Giving Congxiong ample time to do what he pleased with the Avatar. When Airen was sober from the effects of the mucuna flavor. Disaster had struck the Den, however, he was still dazed from his experience he didn't remember much until the next day.

Airen is rumored to be a prodigy at earthbending and for his shape and size his prowess in earthbending is an impression on many.

Trivia[]
- Airen means "dwarf" in Chinese, Shengqi means "pissed off" in Chinese, both names describe the kind of behavior to expect from him.
- He doesn't suffer from dwarfism, he's just shorter than the average person. His height is maybe 4'8" - 4'11".
- In Yu province in 654 BG there's a fort named after Airen, its called, Fort Shengqi. The fort was built soon after Airen's death.
