Overview[]
A New Frontier is a collection of stories written based on the many events on the Avatar RP Wiki, consisting of both new pieces and retellings of tales that shaped Republic City and its people.
Plot[]
Many generations beyond the days of Avatar Korra, Republic City has been broken and slowly rebuilt. In an effort to drive restoration people are encouraged to migrate to the city as part of the Citizenship Project. However, darker elements begin thriving within the city's underworld, taking advantage of its overstretched police force and vulnerable population. With no-one else to protect them, vigilante and mercenary groups form, either taking the law into their own hands, or bending it for their own profit. As these factions battle one-another for their own interests, none of them understand the greater destiny of Republic City and its people.
Characters[]
- Avatar Renshu
- The latest in the line of Avatars, Renshu is young and prone to brash behaviour but is reluctant to use his full strength after having lost his sister and brutally slaying the attackers. He confines himself to the monotonous duties as a Councilor and stays out of most of Republic City's less pressing internal affairs, however, as a result the people began losing faith in him, considering him to be uncaring and uninterested.
- Shufen Yang
- A strongly by-the-books police officer who is given the task of keeping order in the chaotic streets of the city. Her uncompromising attitude and seemingly incorruptible moral code make her a fierce protector, but potentially too rigid to sometimes do what must be done. Like many chiefs before her, Yang is a talented metalbender and prefers to use non-lethal entrapment techniques in combat.
- Ming He
- Ming He is the leader of a small mercenary band that operates with a somewhat grey legal area, performing work for hire and collecting bounties placed on more dangerous criminals that the police don't have the manpower to go after. Despite her wildcard nature and tendency to cause collateral damage in her wake she is a dangerously capable fighter, using her talent and intelligence to compensate for lacking any bending abilities.
- Kairo
- The self-proclaimed airbending leader of the vigilante group Faceless, Kairo believes in doing the wrong thing as long it's for the right reasons, seeing himself as a fearless do-gooder that does whatever is needed to protect others, even if that means spilling blood. Prone to strings reckless acts in the name of justice, Kairo often relies on his friends to reel in his moral-compass and help prevent Faceless from making too much noise.
- Akar
- A man who commands almost unparalleled fear and intimidation, Akar is the leader of the Jade Dragon, a criminal network that either took over or associated itself with almost every major gang in the city. As a result Akar is effectively the most powerful man in the underworld, having used any tactic necessary to maintain his position. He is as sadistic as he is smart, and enjoys facing an equal opponent, he considers at least close to his level.

Prologue[]
In the far future of 348 AG, Republic City stands exactly as it once did, almost 180 years ago. At first technology grew at a near unprecedented rate, much to the disapproval of Korra's successor, Avatar Kiryi. With this unstoppable growth came instability, as mankind began to treat the spirits that co-habituated with them as second-class citizen, even finding ways to forcefully relocated the Spirit Wilds away from the ever-growing cities. At first mankind as a whole was mostly unconcerned with this, but quickly even benders began to find themselves at the mercy of those who wielded advanced tools and weapons, threatening the likes of a civil war never seen before.
In an attempt to return balance, Kiryi began calling for the discarding of modern technology and returning to a harmonious way of life. Beginning her campaign in Republic City, Kiryi's message quickly gained support, but it was only a matter of time before peaceful protest turned to violence. Even the Avatar had not foreseen how far on the edge the world stood before breaking into war, and conflict arose between those who had power and those who did not. Kiryi remained under the impression she still led her followers, even if she had not called for violence to begin with, it suited her ultimate goal. As such, many bloody battles raged across the Mortal World, while the Spirits stood back and watched. In a vain effort to discredit Kiryi's movement, this was officially only referred to as the Rebellion, despite the mounting casualties on both side. Eventually Kiryi's overconfidence and inexperience got the better of her, and she fell at the hands of Industrialists. Without a leader, Kiryi's followers splintered into various factions, with a large number willing to go use extreme methods to achieve their goals, prompting many Industrialists to do the same.
Kiryi's followers swept through the cities like a plague, destroying a substantial amount of the infrastructure and knowledge required to maintain these advancements. In response, a group of Industrialist extremists seeking nothing other than revenge hatched a final plot and found the next Avatar, an infant called Tyshi. In an act that shook the world, Tyshi was killed, shocking both sides into calling for a ceasefire and finally slowing down the senseless violence. In 281 AG, the Rebellion officially came to a close by the hand of Avatar Michu, having been raised in secret for his protection, now appeared before Republic City to remind them of the peace they had once known long ago. Fortunately he succeeded, and reformed Republic City's broken government, starting it on the road to recovery as the rest of the world picked up their own pieces. Peace was restored, but the world they had once known had been lost. Michu continued his attempts to rebuild the damage inflicted to the Wilds and Republic City, eventually passing away in 322.
Finally, Michu's successor, Avatar Renshu now stands as the bridge between both planes, with the Republic City and the rest of the Mortal World a mere shadow of their former selves and the Spirit World in a seemingly turbulent state. Despite his best attempts, scars of the Rebellion still run through people's hearts, and Republic City faces a multitude of threats that it must overcome to regain its lost golden days.
