Fan was a traveling merchant from the Earth Kingdom and an old friend of Zhang.[1]
History[]
Fan was a merchant who traveled the world and used to find new ingredients to use in their close friend Zhang's recipes, which they would cook together.
In winter 99 AG, Fan was going to visit Zhang in Omashu, where he was living at the time, and deliver a package of komodo sausages to him. However, the guards at the city's gate thought the fire flakes among Fan's belongings were too suspicious, and did not let the merchant through, which Fan thought was ridiculous. Fortunately, a group of adventurers was on their way to Omashu, and Fan asked if they could deliver the gift to Zhang, emphasizing how important it was to both of them and what a nice surprise it would be. After the adventurers agreed, the merchant thanked them profusely and promised a reward for their help.[1]
Later on, the adventurers returned to Fan at the outskirts of the city and delivered a letter with a recipe from Zhang to his friend, whom he was worried about. Fan was surprised to learn how much Zhang missed them, but was also happy and proud to hear he was doing well. The merchant was very thankful to the adventurers for their help and recommended them to explore Omashu, which Fan was unable to do. Recognizing the group as fellow travelers of the world, Fan suggested they bring exotic goods to trade with Zhang.[1]
Fan kept in touch with Wen, who was interested in certain items that Fan could acquire for them.[2] Specifically, the merchant was able to locate the ancient journal of Fifth Nation pirate Taliriktug, but soon realized that the book was also sought by members of the Fire Nation military. Thus, Fan hastened to trade the item to Wen, but the two were interrupted by a contingent of Fire Army soldiers under Gyaku. Unwilling to risk life and limb for the journal, Fan quickly fled the scene and left the book behind.[3]
Personality[]
Fan appeared to be very cheerful and friendly, being especially polite when asking the adventurers for help and repeatedly thanking them enthusiastically. As a merchant, the traveler has developed a knack for reading people and could tell the adventurers were honest. Fan also cared greatly for their friend Zhang, being worried for his well-being and wanting to make him happy.[1]
