This article is about the ex-bounty hunter from The Bounty Hunter and the Tea Brewer. For the merchant, see Fan (merchant). For the weapons used by Kyoshi Warriors, see War fans.

Fan was a former bounty hunter, farmer, and eventual leader of the Wuyi Tea Cartel. Alongside her crew consisting of Wei, Kinmei, and Shu-Hui, she helped June and Iroh to defeat the crime lord Keung.

History[]

Early life[]

Fan was originally a bounty hunter. In the last years of the Hundred Year War, she earned a fearsome reputation as someone who was willing to take any job and work for the most dubious employers; it was popularly said that "Fan's so heartless she'll turn in her own mother for a bounty". Eventually, Fan assembled a crew of fellow bounty hunters, namely Wei, Kinmei, and Shu-Hui; together, the group became infamous for their effectiveness in catching bounties in the Earth Kingdom. At one point, the group encountered another famous bounty hunter, June, and developed a good relationship with her.[1]

Meeting June again[]

After 100 AG, however, bounty hunting became increasingly difficult as the Earth Kingdom government tried to curtail non-state vigilantism. Thus, Fan and her crew opted to use their hard-earned money to settle down in the Fire Nation colony of Daxia Harbor, buying a farm. While the others specialized in various subjects, Fan managed their entire business as well as their production of tea blends. She gradually became very proud of their farm, and felt that that they had made the right choice in settling down. However, they and other farmers in the area soon started to suffer under the increasingly despotic Wuyi Tea Cartel, a crime group which taxed Daxia Harbor's small merchants.[1]

One day in the late 100s AG, Fan and her comrades were once again selling their products in Daxia Harbor when they were surprised to see June strolling by. Fan quickly greeted her, and upon noticing their acquaintance's confusion, explained their new way of life. She then gifted June a llamapaca wool scarf, dried mango, pickled yams, and a bit of tea for June's prisoner, Iroh. After the two thanked Fan for the gifts, they noticed nearby merchants being harassed by some thugs. The ex-bounty hunter explained that these were members of the tyrannical Wuyi Tea Cartel, but quickly shifted the topic and invited June to visit their farm in the future.[1]

Later that day, June –now alone– visited Fan's farm. Happy to see her, the latter eagerly showcased the grounds to her acquaintance. After a small tour, the two rested on the farm's porch and drank some tea. Noticing June's unease, Fan asked where Iroh was, but June refused to answer and pointed out that the he had done terrible things in the past. The farmer responded that this description also fit her; after a while, June asked whether Fan and her crew were willing to do one last job –break Iroh out of the Wuyi Tea Cartel's prison– for some money. Fan smiled and responded that she would give her a "'friend of the crew' discount".[1]

Taking over the Wuyi Tea Cartel[]

Afterward, Fan, Wei, Kinmei, Shu-Hui, and June worked out a plan for an attack on the Wuyi Tea Cartel headquarters. The group was enthusiastic about the idea, seeing it as a way to finally break the cartel's control over Daxia Harbor. Fan also pointed out that the tea trade should be free, prompting her comrades to loudly agree.[1]

After Wei's llamapaca "Sweet Dumpling" knocked out the guards at the cartel's fortified headquarters, Fan's crew and June stormed the compound. As Fan used her kama to duel and disarm another guard, she told June to go rescue Iroh from the cartel prison. Over the next minutes, Fan and her crew defeated all remaining guards on the compound, greeting June and Iroh when they emerged from the building. However, cartel leader Keung subsequently also emerged, determined to enact his revenge. After handing June her kama, Fan and her comrades stood by as the bounty hunter and Iroh defeated Keung. Afterward, Iroh pointed out that the cartel's trade network and organization could be turned to good use under new management. To her surprise, Iroh also argued that Fan would be ideal for this position, as she had already experience at running a business in addition to owning a farm whose products were complementary to a tea conglomerate. After some hesitation and with her crew's approval, Fan agreed to the idea.[1]
