Chronicles of the Avatar[1] is a series of novels that is part of the Avatar Legends franchise and published by Amulet Books. The first four novels were written by F. C. Yee with advisement from Michael Dante DiMartino,[2] while the fifth and sixth volumes are written by Randy Ribay.[3]
With the continued success of the Avatar franchise, The Rise of Kyoshi was published on July 16, 2019, serving as the origin story of Avatar Kyoshi. A sequel book, The Shadow of Kyoshi was published on July 21, 2020, and completed the storyline from the previous novel. A third book, The Dawn of Yangchen, was published on July 19, 2022, the first novel in the series to focus on the life of Avatar Yangchen, with the sequel novel, The Legacy of Yangchen, released on July 18, 2023. The fifth volume of the series, The Reckoning of Roku, was released on July 23, 2024, and the sixth, The Awakening of Roku, will be released on July 15, 2025.[3]
The Rise of Kyoshi[]

The Rise of Kyoshi takes place 396 years prior to the events of Avatar: The Last Airbender and follows Kyoshi through her teenage and young adult years. The story maps her journey from a girl of humble origins in Yokoya Port to the merciless pursuer of justice still feared and admired centuries after her death, as well as touching upon her bisexuality.[4] The first installment of the Kyoshi duology is comprised of 32 chapters and 448 pages in its hardcover edition.
The Shadow of Kyoshi[]

The Shadow of Kyoshi is the second novel in the Kyoshi duology. It picks up almost two years after the events of The Rise of Kyoshi,[5] and follows Kyoshi as she attempts to keep peace across the four nations, confronting a mysterious threat from the Spirit World. The book is comprised of 27 chapters, a Prologue, and an epilogue, and 352 pages.
The Dawn of Yangchen[]

The Dawn of Yangchen is the third novel in the Chronicles of the Avatar series and the first to focus on the life of Avatar Yangchen. The book illuminates her journey from uncertain young woman to revered leader, following her and her partner Kavik to Bin-Er, an Earth Kingdom city ruled by corrupt shang merchants who have become resentful of the mercurial Earth King and his whims. The book is comprised of 39 chapters, together with a prologue and epilogue, and 336 pages.
The Legacy of Yangchen[]

The Legacy of Yangchen is the fourth Chronicles novel and serves as the sequel to The Dawn of Yangchen. It comprises 37 chapters and 336 pages.
The Reckoning of Roku[]

The Reckoning of Roku is the fifth Chronicles novel and focuses on Avatar Roku. Comprising 53 chapters, including a prologue and epilogue, and running for 368 pages, it was released on July 23, 2024.
The Awakening of Roku[]
The Awakening of Roku is the sixth Chronicles novel and the sequel to The Reckoning of Roku. It will be released on July 15, 2025.[3]

- On October 19, 2021, a Box Set of the Chronicles' Kyoshi duology was released (ISBN 978-1-4197-5843-0).[6] A second Box Set, including the Kyoshi and Yangchen duologies, was released on October 17, 2023 (ISBN 978-1-4197-7128-6).[7]
