Firebender Fire Nation emblem

Chiyou was a Fire Warrior and former patient of a Fire Nation mental health facility. After being broken out of her facility by Azula, Chiyou joined the rebel force of the princess.

History[]

Following Azula's escape from Team Avatar in Forgetful Valley, the princess helped Chiyou and several other young women escape from an institution. The women became the Fire Warriors, and intended to force Fire Lord Zuko into adopting autocratic policies. To do so, Chiyou and the other Warriors masqueraded as the Kemurikage and began abducting children of high-ranking officials in the Fire Nation Capital.[1][2]

Chiyou was later present when one of the Fire Warriors, Zirin, voiced her dissatisfaction about the Fire Warriors' operations to Azula. The princess urged her followers to be patient and keep following the plan. Ultimately, Azula's operations were discovered and foiled by Zuko, Team Avatar, and their allies.[3] After this point, the Fire Warriors began to fracture,[4][5] though Chiyou initially stayed loyal to Azula.[1]

Chiyou captured

Chiyou watched in disbelief as her comrades left her behind.

Later, the princess led her followers to attack a granary, again hoping that this would disrupt Zuko's rule. However, the operation derailed when Ty Lee and a Domestic Forces contingent ambushed the Fire Warriors, forcing the attackers to make a fighting retreat. As the rebels fled, Chiyou attacked Ty Lee, but was quickly chi-blocked. Despite Zirin's attempt to help her, Azula ordered the Fire Warriors to continue their retreat. While the Domestic Forces officers handcuffed her, Chiyou stared in disbelief as her comrades left her behind.[1]

When Azula later refused to condone a rescue operation, the remaining Fire Warriors abandoned her to help Chiyou. Zirin and another warrior ultimately succeeded in freeing Chiyou. When they returned to the Fire Warriors' makeshift camp, the girls were overjoyed to see each other. Chiyou expressed her happiness over being reunited with her friends, whereupon Zirin asked if she remembered their promise after escaping the institution. With a smile, Chiyou responded that they had promised to always look out for each other. Soon after, the group happily shared a meal.[1]
