The Burning Ember Gang was a crime group and street gang based in the Fire Nation Capital's Harbor City during the Hundred Year War.
History[]
The Burning Ember Gang was initially led by a female firebender[1] nicknamed "Ma", a cunning and brutal criminal who managed to make the group the dominant gang of Harbor City. By bribing the Domestic Forces, the group was able to usually stay one step ahead of the law.[2]
Having grown old, "Ma" eventually retired, passing command of the gang to her son Fai Lan. Under his leadership, the gang continued to expand its business and territory.[2] By 95 AG, the group had begun to deal with pirates outside the capital. Fai Lan hoped to even extend the Burning Ember's criminal influence into the upper-class Hari Bulkan.[1]
Organization[]
As of 95 AG, the gang was officially headed by Fai Lan, an intelligent yet vicious nonbender who maintained control over the gang through brutality and his skill in chi-blocking.[1] However, "Ma" continued to oversee the gang despite her age, posing as senile saleswoman while ensuring that nothing threatened the Buring Embers.[2] Fai Lan's second-in-command was Kila who earned her position by being the only gang member to able to stand up to him.[3]
Headquarters[]
The Burning Ember Gang operated from a seemingly small shop in southeastern Harbor City, known as "Ma's Baos".[4] Outwardly, it was a small house with a stall selling steamed buns attached to the front. The stall had a good reputation and many loyal customers, but these always stayed well clear of the house's back entrance.[2][4] Through this entrance one could access the secret headquarters of the gang, a massive cellar with numerous attached underground rooms and passageways, one of them leading to an emergency exit in another house. Fai Lan controlled the gang from this cellar.[4]
