Book One: Water

Book One: Water (水) is the title of the first season of Avatar: The Last Airbender, created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. The title refers to the Avatar Cycle: water, earth, fire, and air. The story of Aang learning waterbending is primarily focused on during this season, together with Team Avatar's journey to the North Pole.

The season began airing on February 21, 2005, with "The Boy in the Iceberg", and ended at twenty episodes on December 2 of that year, with "The Siege of the North, Part 1" and "The Siege of the North, Part 2" each airing on that date. It was followed by Book Two: Earth.

The episodes were first released on five DVDs, with four episodes to a DVD, before a box set containing all twenty episodes of the season was marketed. The DVDs were released throughout 2006, and a collector's edition containing additional bonus features was later released on June 22, 2010.

Trivia

• This season of the Avatar series won several awards, including "Best TV series" and "Best Animated Television Series", at the 2005 Pulcinella Awards.
• A live-action movie of the first book directed by M. Night Shyamalan, titled The Last Airbender, was released in 2010. Unlike the series, the movie was not a critical success.
• The fifth episode of Book One, "The King of Omashu", was the most-watched episode of the season, reaching 3.54 million viewers in the U.S.
