Boat Bottom is a fishing village on the western coast of the Earth Kingdom continent.[2] It was named for the central building, constructed out of the hulk of a derelict vessel.[3]

History[]

Boat Bottom was located in territory that had long been held by the Fire Nation throughout the Hundred Year War, and while the town was formally under Fire Nation rule, the village never grew large enough to demand any serious occupation. Even after the Fire Nation's withdrawal, life remained much the same. Things started to change in Boat Bottom a few years later as large corporations were looking to move into the town and build something anew. The activity keeping Boat Bottom abuzz was well out of character with the normally small, quiet place, but the locals were pretty happy about it.[2]

Qian Yu landed in Boat Bottom after traversing most of the Earth Kingdom in a stolen Sparrowkeet Air dirigible after she took a valuable Air Nomad artifact from their site in order to protect it. As she was not a proper dirigible pilot, she could not restart the dirigible after she landed it.[4] Sparrowkeet Air used their money and resources to try and find the artifact, and wanted posters of Qian Yu peppered the docks of Boat Bottom, with many people from the company watching the nearby area. Qian Yu was forced to enlist the help of a team of people to take her from Boat Bottom to the Beifong Metalbending Academy just outside Yu Dao, where she could deliver the artifact to Toph Beifong, who in turn would give it to Avatar Aang.

Locations[]

The Jelly Shack[]

The Jelly Shack is Boat Bottom's hottest destination, and has been named the town's top lobster crab chowder restaurant of the year by the Boat Bottom Tribune and the Boat Bottom Junior Academy Gazette. The diner near the docks was run by a happy couple called Mrs. and Mrs. Jelly by the locals. The dining area is small and homey, filled with cobbled together driftwood stools and a countertop just slightly uneven, enough to make the Jelly Shack's precious chowder spill if enough care was not taken. A panel in the back of the kitchen closet revealed stairs to the diner's hidden basement where Mrs. and Mrs. Jelly stored their chowder's secret ingredient: jellynemone. The distinctive smell almost masked the dirigible fuel they kept in the basement, from when they ran a little sabotage ring during Fire Nation rule.[3]

The Pumpyard[]

The Pumpyard is an old Fire Nation processing plant. It used to operate at full capacity, producing refined materials and chemicals for Fire Nation material, but it was abandoned after the war, as the technicians needed to operate the plant either came from the Fire Nation or were not there of their own free will, and they left. Some companies, such as Sparrowkeet Air, considered putting money into the Pumpyard to revive it, but there were more lucrative sites to repair first. This meant that the Pumpyard became a scrapyard, as scavengers took more and more resources and left it in worse and worse repair.[4]
