'Iroh's Tea Shop' 'Tea Sir' (Teaser) 'Bending Post' 'Tea Times' - my fav .... Must have CrossWords for vandals :). I'd be happy to do some, crosswords that is.

Crosswords? I don't know, they are very time consuming, and they'd be difficult to fit in. I suppose that we could link to an external site with one if we really wanted to. The 888th Avatar (Talk) 08:47, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

It could be linked to a Google SS. I guess. Anyway I was more or less suggesting alternative names unless your mind is made up. --Piandao Talk 14:08, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

As for names, I wanted something a bit wider than references to tea. I'm still open to suggestions though. The 888th Avatar (Talk) 23:45, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

After water tea is the most widely drank beverage - world wide! Also people discuss and pass news over a cup of tea, relax etc. It takes it away from a specific subject like location or person. I'll see if I can be more creative.

Let's narrow our choices for names and begin a voting procedure. I like the current one, "The Bending Post" and "The Tea Times". --Energybender 22:30, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

I'd love helping, though I don't really know what specifically to do, are there any really boring things people don't want to do, because I'll gladly take that. Vaznock - Talk 02:20, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

I don't know at this point. I can pretty much internal news myself, but I would like someone to do the humour column and someone to do the Avatar news e.g. find out about new casting etc. The 888th Avatar (Talk) 03:41, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

We could have some stuff like a Stub of the Week or a list of new pages with a clever title that has something to do with birth (though I haven't figured it out yet). Vaznock - Talk 11:04, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

The list of new pages probably doesn't need to be included, people can easily work that bit out by the article count, but the "stub of the week" sounds like a great idea. The 888th Avatar (Talk) 11:12, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

Yeah 'sounds' great, run it as an add like a vacancy maybe, Vacancy for writer - <stub>. Perhaps it can auto rotate? Piandao Talk 12:33, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

Great, I think I'd like to list weekly stubs. Vaznock - Talk 12:38, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

I'll probably get you to do more than just that...so for now, you're the deputy editor (unless you don't want to, of course). The 888th Avatar (Talk) 12:44, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

Of course I'll accept. Thanks, 888! Vaznock - Talk 12:48, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

This should be interesting - a golden and blue arrow shooting over the earth where a brown/white lotus lies *jokes* Seriously, one needed! Piandao Talk 13:12, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

I considered it, but I thought it'd be too hard to display on the template. The base coding for all the issues is found here. The 888th Avatar (Talk) 13:15, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

Editor Request[]

Might I be able to become apart of the Times? I'm always up to date on the latest Avatar news. If not, I'm fine with just my subscription. —Excelsior, The Flash - (Talk to me, talk to me, talk to me bay-bay!) 21:11, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

Well, I wanted to ask that too. Dcasawang1 - Talk 21:58, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

Basically, I really need someone to work on the Avatar and film news, because I'm not always up to date with that. I think Flash would do a good job on that. Vaznock is going to pick the improvement article and I'm probably going to get him to write the main site news feature (definitely blogs this edition!). I don't really need another editor at this point (sorry Dcasawang), because I can handle the coding and the alerts section pretty easily, I've already written it externally. The 888th Avatar (Talk) 23:12, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
OK. Let me know if you need someone. Dcasawang1 - Talk 23:23, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
Sure! The 888th Avatar (Talk) 23:29, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
Alright, 888, so I can message you on newest news? Or what exactly is my roll in this? Also, tell Dc and I whenever a new editor is needed. —Excelsior, The Flash - (Talk to me, talk to me, talk to me bay-bay!) 01:12, 1 May 2009 (UTC)
Basically, write up a piece of a few hundred words (dot points or prose) on what is going on with the series and film e.g. filming began where, who got cast in what role, what's going on witht he controversy. The 888th Avatar (Talk) 04:19, 1 May 2009 (UTC)
Okay, I'll put it on a page and make it hidden. You can read it and edit it then. —Excelsior, The Flash - (Talk to me, talk to me, talk to me bay-bay!) 19:09, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

If I can keep up with the pace, I'll try to write both technical and material things about the paper. Count me in as an editor. Just how is the paper sort of collaborated between us users? --Energybender 19:51, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

Dc may also want your position, Energy. Though Flash may need help. Vaznock - Talk 20:08, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

This is a side note: If users don't subscribe to the paper, then we're still going to use Avatar Wiki:Voting and Template:Site News, correct? Or can non-subscribers and anons just look at this page for all that information? --Energybender 21:45, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

Yes, I think so, though many will likely subscribe. Vaznock - Talk 21:53, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

At this point, I don't really need more editors, though if there's a really nice feature you'd like to include, it's your job to produce that feature. If users don't subscribe, they can always view the current issue through links that I will post on the sidebar, the portal and through the BSST main page. The 888th Avatar (Talk) 00:23, 2 May 2009 (UTC)

"Star Editor"[]

Vaz, I was thinking that we should boost up the standards for gaining both a certificate and the Star Editor title. What I did was truly nothing. I did some grammatical correction and a little expansion. Yet, I recieve a certificate and am nearing the title of Star Editor. I think that we should make the users work for the title. I feel that if we make them really work to earn the title, it would become far more prestigious. This is what I was thinking. In order to earn a certificate, a user must have put forth at least twenty constructive edits to the article. That way, when they have earned five certificates and the "Star Editor" title, they would have had to have put forth at least 100 edits on just these articles. What do you think? Mattkenn3 Talk 15:18, 2 May 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, I think that would be appropriate. Otherwise, we'll get something called "point-whoring". The 888th Avatar (Talk) 15:22, 2 May 2009 (UTC)

Okay, here are the rules I've thought up

  • Quantity does not matter, quality is everything.
  • The edit must have increased a section, or sections, considerably.
  • The article is a grammatical mess. At least a few grammar mistakes should be corrected.
  • Organization is recommended if the user really wants the certificate (such as changing headings, rewriting sections, etc.)

What do you think? Users who do all this will receive a personal "thank you" from me, or maybe 888, but probably me. Vaznock - Talk 15:28, 2 May 2009 (UTC)

Sounds pretty good. But, make sure that the user contributes significantly. There must be a positive and very noticible change in the article because of this user. Mattkenn3 Talk 15:35, 2 May 2009 (UTC)

Yes, and the users need to be registered. But that's, of course, a "no, duh" rule. Vaznock - Talk 15:36, 2 May 2009 (UTC)

Hovering File[]

It seems File:Lastairbenderlogo.jpg tends to hover all over the talk page when it's include in the newspaper template. This is a problem, as it blocks other words. --Energybender 18:03, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

I think that image isn't necessary for the article in the newspaper. Dcasawang1 - Talk 02:12, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
Really? Can you show me a screenshot? And what browser are you using? Wjxhuang, the 888th Avatar {Talk} 03:02, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
I don't possess Adobe PhotoShop, or any other software that can be used to turn print screens into .jpg's, so I can't provide you with a screenshot. I'm using IE7; isn't this seen on any other browsers? --Energybender 22:05, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
Don't you have the option in save as? Gimp free software (takes getting used too) is an alternative and useful to have anyway if you are not into buying software. Another thought is to dump it into a Google document and add a link? Piandao Talk 22:19, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

Editor[]

I would like to become an editor for the paper. I want to do the Featured User section. As you might know, I had posted a similar proposal for a User of the Month Award a while back. This is very similar to what I had in mind and I would like to know if I might take the job. May I? Mattkenn3 Talk 23:57, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

My concern is that it would leave nothing for me to do. The paper isn't long enough to need more editors, so unless people keep coming up with more brilliant ideas to include in the paper, we won't be accepting editor applications. Sorry Matt. Wjxhuang, the 888th Avatar {Talk} 00:15, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

Pat yourself on the Back Award[]

Not a bad idea to mention some appreciation of work to those that need a Pat on the Back Award. Piandao Talk 12:31, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

Some Suggestions[]

You guys are doing pretty good with this newsletter but I have some suggestions, like:

  • a link to usergroups
  • a link to admins/crats and what they can do
  • rules/policies

Those three would help new users get around, and know how a wiki works. Yet, they are all still suggestions. -avatar- Talk 22:26, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

Make a template[]

I think we should make a template so that we don't have to spend time coding everything.

Hi, I was wondering if we could advertise WTW? I started a blog for mini-newsleter and kinda got the whole ba sing se times thing started with my blog. Could we advertise WTW on ba sing se times?

Thanks again, Anr0328 05:31, December 18, 2010 (UTC)

The Ba Sing Se Times have been around for years 0.o
Water Spout tаlk • blog 05:35, December 18, 2010 (UTC)
Sure, but you would need to write such an advertisement yourself - I'm only compiling and possibly writing an editorial and/or an episode review. This is, of course, with the assumption that one of your newsletters is published regularly. The 888th Avatar (talk) 08:29, December 18, 2010 (UTC)

Advertising[]

Hey I just read my first issue of the Ba Sing Se Times today, and I'd judt like to say well done. I can hardly imagine the amount of effort that goes into making this, and perhaps in the future, something I would like to be apart of. Anyway, back to the reason I was here. I was just wondering if you had thought about an "advertisement" section, which would say something like "Come check out NewUser123's fanon, Avatar: The Legend of Example." Or maybe ,"Well done to NewUser123, a new user to the wiki who has done this and that."

It is just a way of people being recognised for their work, without it being Featured or A-Class Article or anything. Kind regards, Will94 (Talk - Teru) 12:20, December 29, 2010 (UTC)

Great suggestion - I'll take it on board for the next issue. :) The 888th Avatar (talk) 23:24, December 29, 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. That brings up another question, how often are the issues released? Once a month? Will94 (Talk - Teru) 23:43, December 29, 2010 (UTC)
I think it's two weeks. Dcasawang1 - Talk 00:12, December 30, 2010 (UTC)

Contributors[]

Hehehe, look at my message above, way back when I was a bit of a novice. :P But to the point, should the names of the contributors that no longer contribute be removed? I would think that Spout remain credited for his image work (providing the images are being used), but others such as 1stAvatar, Olórin The White, and Ianbernard? I mean, they are listed as contributors, and they don't contribute anymore... So? Rassilon Dai Li Sprite (Talk - Teru) 08:29, May 29, 2011 (UTC)

Yea, I'm not so good at keeping that list up to date. XD I think I might bring in a rule that the list should contain all the contributors from the last two issues (i.e. people who have written in the last month). How does that sound? The 888th Avatar (talk) 01:08, May 30, 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, that sounds fair. There should be an exception for those who must go inactive, and provide a reason fot it, providing they contribute once they return. Rassilon Dai Li Sprite (Talk - Teru) 06:26, May 30, 2011 (UTC)
Just updated the recent writers. Rassilon Dai Li Sprite (Talk - Teru) 08:48, June 4, 2011 (UTC)

Straw poll for deputy editor[]

A few people have expressed interest in deputy editor position(s). If you're interested, please jot your name down in a subheading below. Users can then place support or oppose votes below your name, but as always, remember to provide a reasoning behind your vote. Note that this vote is non-binding. Although pretty unlikely, I may choose to go a different way from the vote depending on the newsletter's needs. Thanks! The 888th Avatar (talk) 00:59, October 30, 2011 (UTC)

Theavatardemotivator[]

Hi, this is TAD. Though I'm inactive "online", I am still very much active offline and can definitely do editing and copy-editing, as well as the other duties required of the deputy editor. I'm online at least once a day and can be easily reached via messenger hawk or IRC. TAD, theavatardemotivator - talk 01:09, October 30, 2011 (UTC)

  1. Support Support — TAD has been one of the top contributers of the BSST with her wonderful demote articles. She is the resident Grammar Ozai (no matter what a recently created user name may say), and has an all-round incredible knowledge of the English language and grammar. Although not as active edit-wise as before due to external circumstances, she's still around enough to make the BSST happen. She is an excellent writer, and will no doubt be an excellent deputy editor as well if given the chance. Lady Lostris / 9?cb=20210808202057 SOAP 14:10, October 30, 2011 (UTC)

  8. Support Support — Until she had to call a stop, TAD was contributing weekly to the BSST, always on top of things. Sports Column[]

Hello, I'm Snip101 and I've created the Republic City Sports Network(RCSN). It's all about pro-bending and I'd like to add a column (or something like that) to the BSST. I have one match and interviews already written. It's be awesome if I could put a link to the matches, a link to the interviews and a subscription list so the readers could have a sports section to their newspaper. I could send you my section on one of your message walls and you could add it on to the newspaper each month. I think it could boost morale around and bring in more subscribers. Editorship request[]

Hello, I would like to apply for a position as a deputy editor for the BSST. As is known, I am a rather active member of the wiki community and am always up-to-date with the events of the wiki community. The BSST has fallen into inactivity, but as my contributions log will show, I am an active member of numerous edits of good quantity. I also have ideas for how to increase interest in contributing to the BSST, such as a debating column, where users can debate a set topic (for example, Korrasami v. Makorra or Air v. Fire) in a public sandbox before it is added to the BSST; and a simple list of recent fanons, rather than full descriptions; a community story, in which someone writes one sentence first (Avatar related) and members can write a sentence to continue the plot. I would be more than happy to oversee these columns. There are a few other, minor suggestions.

I believe I would be an active and useful deputy editor of the Ba Sing Se Times.
