Lightningbending can be made into a disambiguation page, but the pages of lightning generation and redirection will not be merged.

So, in the early pages of Smoke and Shadow Part 3, Mai uses the term "lightning bending". Issues of spelling it with or without the space aside, I think this instance warrants a discussion of whether to rename or merge the articles we have on lightning use. This is further complicated by the unclear thing Azula does in that early fight, which in my opinion, looks like she redirected lightning against Zuko once he redirected it first. Assuming lightningbending is now the term to use, I believe that would encompass both generation and redirection. The question is, would the articles be merged? What about image categories? I would keep the pages as they currently are. Both redirection and generation are decent stand-alone pages, and regardless of what Mai said, they are known to be two separate techniques. They may be encompassed by the catch all term "lightningbending", but it's clear that you don't have to be able to generate lightning in order to redirect and vice versa. As such, we could add a little sentence in the beginning to incorporate the term "lightningbending", but other than that, I would leave everything as it is. I agree with LL, and to avoid redundancy, it is essentially for the same reasons. I will add though, that perhaps a merger should take place between the "lightning redirection user" and "lightning generation user" categories to become one single "lightningbender" category inspired by this canonical use of the word. I agree with Lostris, per her reasoning. I also agree that a single category for lightningbenders be created, but to differentiate the generators from the redirectors, place the already-existing categories as sub-categories under the single "Lightning benders" category. I don't really see the point in merging the categories and not the pages. The same rationale can be used: a category "lightningbender" is noncommittal, as you don't know which technique of "lightningbender" that user can do.
User:SorcererSupreme21's idea is not bad, but unnecessary in my opinion as it would only lead to overcategorization. Lady Lostris vstf (talkHotN) 15:21, March 26, 2016 (UTC)

I agree with LL. As a way to recognize the term, we could create a disambiguation page for "lightningbending" (although I must admit that I personally don't like the way "lightningbending" looks a single word, despite the use in canon), but I don't even think this would be necessary since they really are distinct enough to keep separate. I don't know whether it was one or two words in the comics, but considering we use all the other bending types/styles/techniques as one word, this one should be one too. Lady Lostris vstf (talkHotN) 23:05, March 26, 2016 (UTC)
In SS3, it was broken between two lines if I'm not mistaken. The closest thing we have to "you don't need to know one to know the other" is healing and spiritbending, if the comparison is useful in anyway. I just think the term should be adopted in some capacity. Omnibender - Talk - Contributions 23:06, March 26, 2016 (UTC)
At the moment it seems to be either the title of a category or disambiguation page. SorcererSupreme21 Iroh Sprite OWL Outfit (Contribs | Editcount) 6:36, March 27, 2016 (UTC)
Then I'd say a disambiguation page, as I don't see the point of an additional category in this case. Lady Lostris vstf (talkHotN) 08:20, March 27, 2016 (UTC)

I agree. I've seen on a few other wikis that two similar subjects (such as the Fred and George Weasley on the Harry Potter Wiki) have a disambiguation page. In this case, using the aforementioned Weasley twins disambiguation page as an example, I would add at least a paragraph explaining what lightning bending is and the difference between lightning generation and lightning redirection for clarification, like other disambiguation pages bullet the two terms under the paragraph.
