Forums: War Room Comics organization: make a new page or continue collecting on one page

This discussion is closed. The result of this discussion was:
"List of Avatar: The Last Airbender comics" will be split into "The Lost Adventures" and a general "List of Avatar: The Last Airbender comics". A "List of The Legend of Korra comics" will be created.

With the release of "Friends for Life", it would probably be best to discuss how we are going to organize comics moving forward given that there'll be constant back-and-forth releases between the two different shows. I believe there was already a discussion about how we'll deal with ordering them chronologically, but I cannot find the war room archive so if someone can refresh the consensus for that, it would be good to clarify it.

But also, right now the first Korra comic is listed alongside every other comic on this page. Now the first obvious pressing problem is that the page is a list of A:TLA comics and "Friends for Life" is not part of A:TLA. So that leaves the question of either:

  1. Renaming the page to something that will encompass both A:TLA and TLOK comics, along with any unexpected offshoots (i.e. "Comics"), or something more in-line with other list page titles (i.e. "List of Avatar franchise comics").
  2. Creating a new page for all TLOK comics (i.e. "List of The Legend of Korra comics").

I think that the current page (List of Avatar: The Last Airbender comics) is already too long as is and there are still upcoming trilogies and comics for A:TLA. Adding TLOK comics on top of that may look cluttered and start to become disorganized quickly.

I would honestly vote for a complete restructuring of the comic articles. The majority of the page now details the comics collected in The Lost Adventures. So I think it's sensible to make that a standalone article, then create another general page for all A:TLA comics in which that page will be listed, then a third article for all TLOK comics. In summary, the pages for comics would end up including:

  1. The Lost Adventures
  2. List of Avatar: The Last Airbender comics
  3. List of The Legend of Korra comics

This would be on top of the individual pages for each comic that those pages collect (e.g. the second article would list The Lost Adventures, which in turn lists an individual comic like "Relics", which in itself has its own page). Waterbending emblem Water Spout 03:04, May 9, 2016 (UTC)

No opposition to the splitting of the bulk of ATLA comics into a The Lost Adventures page. The single issue I have with making a page Korra comics is the fact there is only one out at the moment. The only reason to create a TLOK only comics article right now is if we have enough information about the upcoming ones in general, such as writers, artists, colorists and letterers. Something that is somewhat tangent to this discussion, but still relevant in my opinion, is how they'll be ordered. At the moment, FfL is listed as issue 44, in the middle of ATLA comic issues. Since it appears we'll continue to have both ATLA and TLOK comics, I feel it would be best to separate those lists, instead of having a list where the setting of the comics changes each issue. I believe this would require some template editing, and when we have enough TLOK comics, maybe some changes to the slide templates of the main page as well. Something we could do is have one list for comics that take place during the war, a list for ones taking place between the Hundred Year War and the Equalist Uprisings, and the LoK comics. That's if you want to list them chronologically.
In my opinion, a better thing to do would be to have one list for trilogy comics and spin-offs (like Rebound), a list for other Avatar comics, namely the ones that appeared in the Nickelodeon magazine, and ones for LoK comics specifically. Omni: I agree about there being insufficient LOK comics to warrant a catalog page right now, so I am only proposing that it's created when the need arises. For now, obviously a more streamlined catalog page for A:TLA pages would be more justifiable to create on top of a The Lost Adventures page. At the moment, I don't think it's that big of an issue not having "Friends for Life" in any collection page, because a single standalone should be fine. Then when more comics and announced/released, we can start to organize a catalog page. I do also agree that we need to keep the ordering for the comics separate.
SS21: I think organization based on franchise is better than organization based on chronology. Whatever arbitrary event or year we choose as demarcation points, there will be a period overlap between the two series and the works within the transition period will still be clumped together. Say an A:TLA one-shot set right around the time "Friends for Life" is set is released- the two would undoubtedly fit in the same page, but in my opinion it's a better idea to separate based on shows. Since comics are generally released chronologically, organizing them based on the series would still have some sense of chronology associated with it.
With your second suggestion, that's essentially the same as what I'm proposing: spin-offs and the trilogies released now fit in the list of A:TLA comics; the Nick magazine releases were collected in one book so they'd be listed on a new The Lost Adventures page (which as a book would also be listed in the list of A:TLA comics, as opposed to every single comic it collects); and the TLOK comics about to be released will be collected in a list of TLOK comics. I'm completely on board with this proposal. The Lost Adventures are canon-wise already grouped together. I see no reason why we should not follow suit. We can still use the general ATLA comic list page to also link to that page via the {{main}} template.
As for the TLoK comic page, I would even be on board with creating that already, listing FFL (obviously) and also the info about the upcoming Korra-comic and what they will be about (what we know, anyway). That way that -rather important- info will get more exposure than the random blog it's currently featured on. As such, the page will be short, but sufficient in length to be around and it will serve as the logical page to expand once the other comics come out - so possible new editors at that time who do not know about this discussion know where to turn to. I agree with Lostris. If we were to keep the LoK comics on the ATLA page, but only split off The Lost Adventures, we'd be having this very same discussion again when the LoK comics come out, so I say, we don't take any half measures, but do it fully in one go. If that means the LoK comics page is a bit on the short side for a while, so be it. As far as I'm concerned, divide them over three pages, as per Water Spout's proposal.Aang Cosmic AvatarAang7 (My wall - My fanon) 08:56, May 9, 2016 (UTC)
I agree with AA7 on this one. Tono555 Read my Fanon! 20:31, May 9, 2016 (UTC)
I think we're all in agreement here. One page for Nick Mag/TLA (The Lost Adventures) comics, one for Avatar comic trilogies, and one for the LoK comics. SorcererSupreme21 Iroh Sprite OWL Outfit (Contribs | Editcount) 11:06, May 9, 2016 (UTC)
