Shortcut: AW:PQC

Changing the profile quote (the colored box at the top of a large majority of articles) is something people can often debate about. For that reason, Avatar Wiki centralizes these changes on this page.

Procedures

1. The proposer posts their suggestion(s) here. The proposer must support their suggestion(s) with a sensible reason for replacement ("it is an accurate representation of the character/his or her role in the series").
2. Discussion about the proposal can begin immediately. An administrator may, however, decide to retroactively reject the proposal if it is felt it does not meet the required standards.
3. If a discussion ensues and:
   1. no general consensus appears to develop between involved users, then a ballot will be placed forward among the supported proposals;
   2. the people involved are all in agreement, and after five days no one else voices their objections, then the quote can be replaced without voting.
4. If #3 does not apply and, after five days, no one replies, then the quote can be replaced without discussion or voting.

In order to speed up the process, it can be beneficial to withhold your comments when you agree with the majority. Adding your own comment will reset the "five days without comment" waiting period for consensus.

The current quote is just a wise quote that could've been said by anyone, Iroh for example. As such I propose to change it to one that at least reflects back (albeit minimal) to Pathik as a character. Lady Lostris /  SOAP 08:08, September 10, 2020 (UTC)

I'm not a big fan of the current quote. Nothing's WRONG with it, but I feel the proposed one is better. Zacatero • (Wall) •      01:09, September 10, 2020 (UTC)

And why? The current, while admittedly not great to say something about Parhik's character, at least refers back to the opening of the chakras, which was Pathik's role in the series. The proposed is a wise quote that could've been said by anyone.

That said, I added a second proposal, which reflects back (albeit minimal) to Pathik as a character. I am in favor of changing the quote to that one. Lady Lostris /  SOAP 05:46, September 10, 2020 (UTC)

Since this is on the article for the episode rather than the character, I think the current quote describes better what happened in the episode, specifically Aang's journey to open his chakras. The first proposal doesn't really say anything about the episode, and the second is more related to Pathik himself; sure, he is mentioned in the episode title, but the episode is about more than just him and the quote should reflect this. Though I was the one to add the original quote to Nyahitha's page I have since decided that the proposed replacement #1 is more fitting for his role in The Shadow of Kyoshi. A huge part of Nyahitha's role in the book is that he used to be Kuruk's spiritual guide so Kyoshi goes to him for help regarding Yun. His history with Kuruk is more relevant than his past of being a High Temple leader.  I believe that the replacement better sums up his character's role in the book.  IᖇOᕼ'ᔕ ᒍᗩᔕᗰIᑎE TEᗩ 5:27, September 1, 2020.

Disclaimer: I have never read the Kyoshi novels and I know nothing about this character, but I will say that the existing quote does read better than the new one. I am more intrigued and wanting to know more about this character after reading the current quote than I am with the proposal quote. Zacatero • (Wall) •      10:50, September 4, 2020 (UTC)

I think this replacement better describes the Knowledge Seekers, and interestingly enough both the current and the replacement are all part of the same quote. The full transcript line reads:

You're both right. [Katara and Sokka turn to him in surprise. Cut to Zei.] Handsome little creatures. [Takes out a drawing of the library and places it on the table.] Wan Shi Tong and his knowledge seekers collected books from all over the world, and put them on display for mankind to read, so that we might better ourselves.

Current quote says absolutely nothing about Ikki as a character besides the fact that she's energetic; the proposal has her quirks with the line about "Twinkle Starchild" and "Princess Rainbow," but actually has to do with her as a person. Ikki's thoughts on romance say virtually nothing with her, since she doesn't do anything romantic in the narrative. However, most Ikki-centric episodes deal with her struggling with her two siblings, so a quote about her relationship with them makes the most sense. Fire Ferret 12:44, August 3, 2020 (UTC)

Definite agreement that the current needs to change, long outdated. I added a second proposal that emphasizes Ikki's conflict with her siblings more deeply, as I feel like part about the bison only makes sense in context. Lady Lostris /  SOAP 13:17, August 3, 2020 (UTC)

I prefer it to the current, but I think its emphasis on her being left out isn't ideal. Usually her conflicts with her siblings get resolved by the end of an episode. While they squabble, she does still have a good relationship with her siblings and I feel like just emphasizing the negative neglects that important part of her character. Alternatively, if the stuff with the bisons is confusing we can edit it to Even though [they] fight they still love each other. Fire Ferret 13:21, August 3, 2020 (UTC)

I didn't even remember the reference, and I thought proposed replacement #1 was solid. As in, I might never have even watched that episode, but I think it's quite clear from context. I assumed they were spirits or something. That is to say, I strongly support that one; further clarity would be helpful but not a big issue either way. I prefer the first proposal. As FF said, the emphasis on her being left out isn't quite as drastic as the quote makes it seem to be. They're siblings and they fight; I believe the first proposal shows that positive relationship, and Ikki's own beliefs regarding that relationship, better. I agree with Fruipit and FireFerret, her feeling left out seems to be more of an issue than it actually is. However, the second sentence of proposal #1 feels slightly off, like Lostris said, you shouldn't need context in a timeless quote. I feel like the "they still love each other" line is important, imo changing the last line to "Even though [they] fight, they still love each other" Fixes it better. I've added it as an additional proposal. I still prefer #1 because I think the weird names display her hyperactive personality, and whatever the creatures are doesn't really matter.
