Article layout is to a large extent standardized on Avatar Wiki. Sections and their headings should largely be consistent across broadly similar categories of articles. In addition, all articles should have lead sections that summarize the subject of an article, unless otherwise stated, and the applicable infobox template if one exists.

In general, these sections should appear in this order if they are needed in an article:

• History is always used for the background history of the article's subject. It must be the first heading. On event articles, it is the background that led to the actual event. Never name such sections anything else other than "History".
• Trivia sections are permitted; they must always use this title to make this clear.
• See also is always used for sections that include links to relevant articles.

The word "the" should never be used to start a heading (i.e. "Battle" should be used instead of "The Battle") unless it is the beginning of an episode name (e.g. "The Puppetmaster").

Appearances

When deciding first and last appearances for characters in infoboxes, these must be listed according to an established ranking of priority. Actual appearances (including visions and flashbacks) always take first priority. Appearances through mentions, statues, paintings, and photographs are valid to be included, but only in cases where no more prominent appearance has occurred. In that sense, only one appearance is to be listed in the following order of priority:

• Actual appearance
• Other visual appearance
• Mention
