Avatar: The Last Airbender[2] is an upcoming series produced by Netflix in partnership with Nickelodeon, aiming to retell the story of Avatar: The Last Airbender in a live action format. Both Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko are returning to helm this adaptation, noting that they were "thrilled [...] to realize Aang's world as cinematically as [they] always imagined it to be, and with a culturally appropriate, non-whitewashed cast".[3] Production is scheduled to begin in 2019,[4] with the show slated to air in 2020.[2]

Summary

Long ago, the four nations lived in harmony. Then, everything changed. The animated show's original creators helm a live-action take on Aang's story.[2]

Casting

While no casting choices have been announced, it was stated by Daniel Richtman in a post that they were "looking for a mostly Asian cast and a 12-14 Asian kid to play Aang".[5] DiMartino and Koneitzko corroborated this in a post of their own, saying that they wanted to make a show that featured a "culturally appropriate, non-whitewashed cast".[6]
