I have rough ideas for my next avatar along with a whole story behind him.

I haven't read the post-series comics of Korra so I dunno much about what happened to her after she and Asami left for the Spirit World. I think the comics say she came back but for the sake of my fanscript at some point Korra had to return to the Spirit World and was never heard from since. Given no one knows if she's alive or not and that given her spirit cannot stay in the Spirit World means it is unknown if she's alive, dead or when she died for the Avatar Cycle to continue.

Over time Varrick Global Industries collaborated with Future Industries to establish new power plants across the world that uses the spirit vines to provide "clean" and "safe" energy to the world, bringing it into a dieselpunk age (without the diesel). The City of Omashu being one of the few Earth Kingdom cities to have one which revolutionize the city, allowing immigrants from the other kingdoms to find new lives there. So while Omashu is still an Earth Kingdom city it has become more like Republic City over time.

I imagine the new Avatar looking a lot like a cross between Haru and Bolin. Wearing green workers overall and white shirt stained with machine grease.

The Avatar, is a mechanic at Omashu's power plant. He knows a lot about the dieselpunk machines that surround his daily life. His best friend is a waterbender who is more for healing than waterbending and is training to be a doctor. (I dunno if the stigma of only women should be healers is still around or not but if so he is trying to break that barrier). After a work-related accident his friend gets severely hurt. In his panic he tries to clean the wound with water and when he noticed the water began to glow he attempted the same healing methods he observed his friend done before and manage to heal him. Surprise to learn he was both and earth and waterbender they were quick to realise the potential of him being the Avatar. Unlike Aang who was told he was the Avatar at a young age or Korra who discovered and embraced her Avatar identity at a young age, this Avatar had absolutely no realisation he was the Avatar until he healed his friend with waterbending.

Over time the finds out he cause of Korra's death, a sort of cover-up in the Spirit World. Korra finds out that the spirit vine power plants were causing some sort of pollution in the Spirit World and was killed to prevent this from becoming public. Given Asami and Varrick are personal friends to the Avatar and the ones who constructed the power plants I doubt they were the ones who would kill her, though perhaps Varrick would be a suspect.

So the new Avatar starts a campaign to stop the use of spirit energy and to bring awareness of the pollution in the spirit world. However given the worlds reliant on spirit energy and Varrick Global and Future Industries monopoly on spirit energy this makes him an enemy to them.

The only ones who agree to the Avatar is the White Lotus and the Air Nomads who were lead by Tenzin's great grandson. However the Air Normads ideals turn out to be rather extreme and destructive. This is because the leader of the Air Normads isn't just a decendant of Aang but also the reincarnation of Unalaq making him the Dark Avatar. Despite being Air Normad he is still driven with the desire to ruin the world just as it's the Avatar's duty to protect it.

That's all I thought up so far.

Being part of a reincarnation cycle was such a major part of being the Avatar from inception. Removing that is bizarre, not to mention unsatisfying. All that's left is a person who can bend all 4 elements, which is...fine, it's ok, but not exactly as meaningful. I'm in the middle of Kyoshi's 2nd book right now, and unsurprisingly she's having visions of Kuruk's young life. And it's pretty powerful for her character, though I won't spoil anything (and please don't spoil me either lol). Robbing Korra and any future Avatar (and us) of potential scenes like that is just...I have no other word but pointless. It's unnecessary. Then again, I personally will never be in favor of a destruction of history in any form. Its willful enactment is unforgivable. There are few travesties as great as that severance in real life, and it sucks in fiction too. Of course, since this is fiction, there is absolutely no reason why Korra can't go into the spirit world at some point, gather up the past Avatar spirits who are still probably roaming around somewhere, take them all to some special location, perform some magical spirity mumbo jumbo, a ceremony, and presto, link reestablished. After some trials, obviously. Gotta make it a challenge to be interesting. </div>mayde the past avatars are in the fog of lost souls?? </div> Nah that's not how reincarnation work. Reincarnation is heavily implied for the Avatar Cycle. When an Avatar dies their soul comes back to Earth. I can't remember the time-span of this, maybe in a few days, like the next available phetus or something.

To be fair there was a lot about the Avatar cycle I didn't get. For example how past Avatars are able to talk to the current Avatar in ghost like forms. As far as I'm aware that's not how reincarnation and ghosts work, it's one or the other, not both. Past Avatars possessing the current Avatar (like in the episode Avatar Day) I get because the Avatar is actively presuming a past life. Maybe if it was along the lines of Animus rules then yeah, that make sense.

I wouldn't be surprise if a colony of waterbenders break off and make their own undersea kingdom. Heck Suyin Beifong practically founded her own city almost by herself. I wouldn't be surprise if Kya decides to give it a go and make her own city.

What would you have them do? What would the driving force for the story be?</div>I can think of literally anything. There's always something going on in the world of Avatar. Personally I'd like to see the Air Nomads explored more, maybe a few dozen generations after their Harmonic Convergence renewal, or even a flashback to when they lived before the genocide.</div> Yeah. Or off the top of my head, what if a slightly older Kai get's his own spin-off series. I know I said "no one directly assosiated with the Avatar" but as Zealous said be interesting to see how the new Air Normads adapt to the world. And Kai who is one of the new airbenders and his girlfriend being of old air normad decendant and going on adventures around the world it would be interesting.

Heck I would settle for a spin-off set in the world of Avatar. As in has nothing to do with Korra, Aang or any of Team Avatar, could be entirely different characters with their own story but still set in the world of the Avatar.

I had ideas all fleshed out but I forgotten most of them. All I can recall is that when he was born no one figured out he was the Avatar until he was around Korra's age, maybe a bit younger. He discovers hes the Avatar later than he intended. Other ideas of mine is that he's part of a pit crew to car racing. I can't remember all of my ideas for him but one thing I noticed is that Earth, Fire and Water nations all had someone who tried to conquer the other nations and Air Normads are the only one who haven't had a go, mostly because they were extinct all this time. Sure Air Normads are the more passive and peace-embracing of the four nations but I like the idea of an Air Normad who is forcing those ideals onto everyone for what they believe is the greater good. And I would like that villain to be a decendant of Aang to not only further establish his airbending heritage over post-Hamonize Airbenders but also to show that being a decendant of the Avatar doesn't guarantee good people. I don't count Zaheer because he was a post-Hamonize Airbender who followed Red Lotus ideals over Air Normad ideals. My other idea as an alternative would be instead of concentrating on the next Earth Naiton Avatar we go back to the one before and let Kyoshi have her own TV series. We only know a few stories around her life and would appeal to an audience who much rather have a less progressed Avatar world than one of giant robots and lasers.

Been awhile since I jot the ideas I had in mind... what were my ideas I had again? I recall my ideas take place in Omashu which has become more built up and industrialised just like Republic City. While regarded an Earth Nation city it's population also consist of immigrants from Fire and Water tribe and perhaps King Bumi has set up his own Air Temple in honour of his friend Aang, though Bumi himself has long passed. A particular idea in mind is the reintroduction of the Dark Avatar. In his previous life he was Unalaq but was reborn as the son (or maybe grandson) of Meelo. There are various reasons why I wanted the Dark Avatar to be an airbender. Mostly because Ozai, Unalaq and Kuvira all tried to conquer in the name of their nation so it be interested for an airbender to have a go. The reason why I chose him to be the great-grandson of Aang is because since Raava defeated Vaatu, Vaatu must regenerate from Vaatu through decendancy. A new "Avatar Rule" in mind is that if one of the two Avatars dies before the other then their reincarnation is put on hiatus until they can be both be reborn roughly in the same time frame. As for dark Avatar cycle I imagine it either in reverse order to the Dark Avatar will be born the opposing element to the Avatar.

I doubt Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko given much thought of the World of Avatar after Korra. Other than the sequal comics. I had my own ideas for her next life as an Earthbender but they're just fancruft ideas.

I like to believe if not Korra then many a future Avatar. But given we're rebooting to Netflix live-action series I guess it doesn't matter much. I too would much rather have the Avatar reconnect to the past Korra lost over all that history simply be forgotten.

So... Firebenders can ignite their own chi as a fire source? I guess that makes some sense. Especially the part where breathing is an important part of firebending. fire is a chemical reaction and require air for flames to grow.

I can't really accept "inner source" as an answer because it sounds a bit too mystical as an answer. I know bending itself is a mystical art but it's specifically said to not be "magic". Thus Earth, Water and Airbenders cannot simply "produce" there element from the absent of it, mostly because it's all around them. For example even when Katara became a more qualified waterbender she still carries around water with her in case she was ever in a fight without a source of water. Hana taught her that water could be extracted by plants and Katara learned to use sweat and other liquids to fight with. That said for a waterbender their bending is more limited unlike the earth beneath them or the air around them. Firebenders seem to just be able to produce fire and there is no explanation for it. The only explanation I have is that firebenders are able to superheat air molecules to cause it to ignite. SImilar to the technique of combustion man.

I'm not worried about the computer quality of bending. As long as it looks like what it's suppose to look like I can pass cheap special effects as long as the acting makes what they're doing convincing. For example the special effects in the movie wern't that bad. Just the bending manuvers were over-choreorised that it didn't look as if the benders had a propper connection to the elements they were bending. Such as Firebenders having to rely on a source of fire to firebend or it takes the Earthbenders cheerleading squad just to move a rock. In Shyamalan's defence I can see why he decided firebending requires a source given Earth, Air and Waterbenders cannot draw elements from themselves. (Now that I think about it, even I'm not sure how firebenders in the cartoon generate fire. I pressume they simply have the ability to super-heat air molecules and can control the direction of heat to prevent self harm.) But Shyamalan's firebenders could of at least have flintlocks on their wrist or something.

I see a bit of good out if it. Let's say it goes as far as "The Legend of Korra". They'll be able to hammer out all the inconsistancies that fan has complained about between seasons.

As I've been pointing out, I regard that the gifts of harnessing the elements that the lion turtles bestow as an entirely seperate thing to actually bending.

Lion turtles give the gift of the elements itself.
Lion turtles do not give the actual skills for bending itself.
Bending is entirely a human creation from observing animals and various sources in nature.

Think of actual bending like martial arts (which is often depicted as so in the series). I myself have hands for punching and feet for kicking but just because I can punch and kick doesn't make me a martial arts master, I need training for that. Same as how Katara was able to levitate water on the very first episode of TLoA but she wishes she had a teacher to tutor her in how to be a waterbender. Or the way Wan was able to "punch" fire his first time but it was later on when he learned to properly "bend" it and the hunting party regards his control over it an extention to his body than just a weapon. I can see how it works, it's just bad writing convulutes it. After all history forgot about the era of Wan which seems like a crucial thing to remember. To me Wan's story seemed like a rushed job and could of been told better in the extent of two episodes. And to be honest, while I have always wondered who the first Avatar was, I kinda wish they left "how humans could shoot elements" entirely speculative. It sort of gives some character and mystery to the world of Avatar.
