It could be that ra is the sun spirit while sha is the sky spirit as the sky (or ozone) filters the sun rays. Both are needed for life and so I believe that is the reason these two are spirits with physical forms.

Lion turtles are the physical form of the elemental spirits!

Just as the moon spirit has a physical form so the does lion Turtles each taking on the same form as to balance each other out. That’s why they were able to energy bend, yet I believe the ability to bend was given to other spirits who then took on physical forms. Basically they delegated some of their power to other spirits after wan sealed vaatu and closed the portals. I wouldn’t be surprised if theirs a old air bison flying through the world with spears jammed into him and still going. Ran and Shaw could be the fire elements spirits as they seem to be the largest dragons in the series. tui and la or now yue now. And I like imagine their being a badger mole in the center of the earth.

The term air nomads confused and made me think that, not all the airnomads lived in temples. The word nomand means "a member of a people that travels from place to place to find fresh pasture for its animals and has no permanent home." I guese that true yet the only that has any form of pasture is the western air temples cliff and it makes me think, at there might have a Group air bender that ate meat and when they did was when their Bison died of old age and once they did they ate the meat. Kinda like sky burial.

never look up what "Ba Sing se" means in mongolian.

It's a childish because what it means in mongolian. I can never watch with ba sing se with out chuckling a bit. It's not exact but it's Close enough to make any mongolian child laugh or giggle that it.

To be honest sand is everywhere, a sandbender could creade sand just by Punching a boulder into sand and vise versa. We see bumi doing this when he fights aang and it can be versatile as water bending in the Hands of a create master, imagine a sand bender creating wall of sand and then firing spike like rocks from it and suffication or being crushed by after being surranded by sand.

applications of metal bending

metal dust/sand bending. I think it would start out from zaofu or the Dessert and be very powerful, I also see the metal dust/sand first creation to being bended to be form spike and a master of it to take up the carrie of a bounty hunter or Police officer since being able to bend metal creap on someone like a swarm of insect would be horrorfying. There is also defence to think about as metal dust bender can create a ball or do something like swamp/pland bender and create a massive battle form. Then there are swords, lets be honest thanks to metal Benders there is no Need for swords in Avatar. but then I thought about platantium. So the bases a metal bender makes sword where there is two places where a marble sized Piece of impure metal is hidded. Let's say the bottom of the hild with out their opponents knowing it would seem the metal bender is bending a platuim blade and other metal bender wouldn't be able to stop it because they don't know where the marble is. prostetic limbs. Yea legs and arms controlled through metal bending even if only metal bender would be the only ones it would be insane to see a metal bender who's limbs are completly made of metal and then turns out it has multiple hidden weapons. Legende of korra Show cased many bender who are able to bend with their mind so it wouldn't be impossible. puppets! a bit of the same concept as the marble in a sword trick. Just that it is used for theare and movers. though you could use them as Bombers or for assassination missions... making cars and machinary? Seriously metal Benders at the convavor belt? Why wasn't this ever shown?! I mean it would be perfect.
