<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12pt;line-height:107%;font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;border-width:1pt;border-style:none;border-color:windowtext;padding:0in;background:rgb(255,254,251);">So just reading everything written here and I would like to say something. I thought the three love stories (Zuko and Mai, Sokka and Suki, Aang and Katara) were all pretty well done. Here's why:</span><span style="font-size:14.0pt; mso-bidi-font-size:11.0pt;line-height:107%"></span></p>
<p style="margin:0in0in0.0001pt;"><span style="font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;border-width:1pt;border-style:none;border-color:windowtext;padding:0in;background:rgb(255,254,251);"> </span><span style="font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;border-width:1pt;border-style:none;border-color:windowtext;padding:0in;background:rgb(255,254,251);"></span></p>
<p style="margin:0in0in0.0001pt;"><span style="font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;border-width:1pt;border-style:none;border-color:windowtext;padding:0in;background:rgb(255,254,251);"> </span><span style="font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;border-width:1pt;border-style:none;border-color:windowtext;padding:0in;">So first of all Aang had this crush on Katara. I mean what twelve year old super adorable boy, doesn't have a crush on the really pretty girl who finds him after he's been frozen in ice. I mean Katara kind of rescued him. She was the first thing he saw after being in the Avatar State for a hundred years, after being frozen for just as long, and after having those feelings of fear that everything was changing back at home. </span><span style="font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;"></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0.0001pt;line-height:normal;"><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;border-width:1pt;border-style:none;border-color:windowtext;padding:0in;"> </span><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;border-width:1pt;border-style:none;border-color:windowtext;padding:0in;"></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0.0001pt;line-height:normal;"><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;border-width:1pt;border-style:none;border-color:windowtext;padding:0in;">Remember that Aang is really receptive to affectionate actions, and Katara gives them to him freely. I almost think that Katara viewed him at first like her own little boy. I mean she acts motherly to everyone, even Zuko, but just think about it. She saves him, basically accidentally brings him/iceberg/Appa up out of the water, therefore she kind of started the whole thing, although for course not on purpose, and he's this cute little bald boy. </span><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;"></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0.0001pt;line-height:normal;"><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;border-width:1pt;border-style:none;border-color:windowtext;padding:0in;">Remember she really invited him into her village. Sokka didn't like Aang, but Katara really showed him hospitality. So of course Aang would respond to that. Also remember he has just lost everybody he knew and loved. The only person surviving is Bumi and he doesn't know that he's still alive. So with Katara's sweet, welcoming ways, he would totally fall for her. </span><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;"></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0.0001pt;line-height:normal;"><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;border-width:1pt;border-style:none;border-color:windowtext;padding:0in;"> </span><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;border-width:1pt;border-style:none;border-color:windowtext;padding:0in;"></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0.0001pt;line-height:normal;"><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;border-width:1pt;border-style:none;border-color:windowtext;padding:0in;">Now for Katara, what fourteen year old girl or any anyone older for that matter look at Aang as a possible suitor? No one. Not even Toph. And she's the same age. I think Katara loved him like a brother or own child. She often protected him and stood up for him. When he is accused by the fisherman, in the episode where you find out what happened to Aang and Zuko, she defends him immediately. She's very protective of him. Like a mother would be for her children. That's not to say that she underestimates him or anything because it's clear that she doesn't. </span><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;"></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0.0001pt;line-height:normal;"><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;border-width:1pt;border-style:none;border-color:windowtext;padding:0in;"> </span><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;border-width:1pt;border-style:none;border-color:windowtext;padding:0in;"></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0.0001pt;line-height:normal;"><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;border-width:1pt;border-style:none;border-color:windowtext;padding:0in;">So with the whole Jet thing. He really just swept Katara of her feet. What girl wouldn't? Jet's handsome, charismatic, a freedom fighter, a leader, strong, a talented swordsman, he saved the three from the fire nation soldiers, and he's got hair. Hahaha. And Jet really did love Katara too. When he gets his memories back from brainwashing, half the scenes have Katara in them. It's clear he thought a lot about her. Also it's clear Aang admired Jet and maybe he thought that Katara and Jet would be good together, setting aside his own personal feelings. </span><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;"></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0.0001pt;line-height:normal;"><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;border-width:1pt;border-style:none;border-color:windowtext;padding:0in;"> </span><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;border-width:1pt;border-style:none;border-color:windowtext;padding:0in;"></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0.0001pt;line-height:normal;"><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;border-width:1pt;border-style:none;border-color:windowtext;padding:0in;">With Haru, I think maybe he respected her and maybe did like her. She did after all save him and his father and set all those earth benders free. She was an inspiration. But when Haru asks her to stay and help him, she refuses and says she's going with Aang. As a writer, that's super foreshadowing and deep. It's kind of like he's asking her about the two of them and she's saying no. When she says she's staying with Aang, it's kind of hinting toward a future for the Kataang thing. That is excellent writing right there. I like how Haru accepts it.</span><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;"></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0.0001pt;line-height:normal;"><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;border-width:1pt;border-style:none;border-color:windowtext;padding:0in;"> </span><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;border-width:1pt;border-style:none;border-color:windowtext;padding:0in;"></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0.0001pt;line-height:normal;"><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;border-width:1pt;border-style:none;border-color:windowtext;padding:0in;">I was kind of put off at the end when Katara says she has to think about her and Aang but now that i think about it, it was a wise move on Katara's part. Think how she often doesn't think things through and just goes with her feelings. I know it might seem selfish but if she was like 'yeah we can totally be together and love each other' and then Aang dies fighting the Fire Lord, that would be really terrible. Maybe she was afraid of telling her feelings with such a doubtful future. Or maybe she really was confused. They are at war after all. She's been burned by Jet, and she doesn't want that to happen again. And maybe she was also afraid that Aang really did just have a crush for her and didn't love her like she wanted to be loved. </span><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;"></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0.0001pt;line-height:normal;"><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;border-width:1pt;border-style:none;border-color:windowtext;padding:0in;">So what I'm trying to say is that I think Katara acted in a way that was pretty normal. She might have known that Aang had a crush on her and thought it was cute. Like Momo. But remember she was being a mother to him. He was her lost boy. She felt sorry for him. Just like she felt sorry for Zuko.</span><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;"></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0.0001pt;line-height:normal;"><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;border-width:1pt;border-style:none;border-color:windowtext;padding:0in;"> </span><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;border-width:1pt;border-style:none;border-color:windowtext;padding:0in;"></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0.0001pt;line-height:normal;"><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;border-width:1pt;border-style:none;border-color:windowtext;padding:0in;">Speaking of which I need to address the whole Zutara thing. Honestly, I would have totally been okay with something between them. Zuko's my favorite character. It could have made sense. They had a lot of history together. But see with their relationship it was special but not a love one. They had a lot in common. Mothers that they were both really close to and lost in horrible ways. Both injured inwardly by the war. They were both burned by fire. Katara healed herself and in Ba Sing Se when she starts to see Zuko as a hurting human instead of a fire breathing monster, she offers him healing like she did to herself when Aang accidentally burned her. When they reconcile on Ember Island, I think that Katara really saw how much Zuko wants to be friends by doing all that he did with her and Southern Raiders. He followed her to the letter and she respects how far he goes to gain her acceptance. </span><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;border-width:1pt;border-style:none;border-color:windowtext;padding:0in;"></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0.0001pt;line-height:normal;"><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;"> </span><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;"></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0.0001pt;line-height:normal;"><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;border-width:1pt;border-style:none;border-color:windowtext;padding:0in;">I think the three love stories were all really good. I loved how Aang's crush grew throughout it all and how it turned into real love for her. I really liked how it shows how much he loves her in the Guru episode. Also I loved how it shows that Aang was patient and waited for Katara. Nowadays people break up or get divorced at such petty things. If they aren't getting what they want then they leave. Aang waited and waited and he got his reward in the end. </span><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;"></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0.0001pt;line-height:normal;"><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;border-width:1pt;border-style:none;border-color:windowtext;padding:0in;">With Sokka and Yue I thought it was kind of fast but sometimes that has to happen with movies. Also we don't know how long they were there before the fire nation came. I liked the Sokka and Suki thing better. I liked how Suki just totally accepts his goofiness and sometimes stupidity and loves him despite it. </span><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;border-width:1pt;border-style:none;border-color:windowtext;padding:0in;"></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0.0001pt;line-height:normal;"><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;"> </span><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;"></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0.0001pt;line-height:normal;"><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;border-width:1pt;border-style:none;border-color:windowtext;padding:0in;">With Zuko and Mai, I love how they balance each other so so well. Mai doesn't want to do anything and reacts to nothing. Zuko is so active and reacts to everything. They are such a humorously dramatic couple. But what I love most is how they both sacrifice for each other. Zuko had to sacrifice the relationship with Mai, with the possibility that he would never be reconciled to her, to do what he knew was right. Mai sacrificed her life (she didn't die but she didn't know that) and her freedom to save Zuko from Azula. Now that makes Mai sound like she sacrificed more but they both sacrificed things that were important to them and that is what is important. </span><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;"></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0.0001pt;line-height:normal;"><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;border-width:1pt;border-style:none;border-color:windowtext;padding:0in;">I thought that compared to Korra the love relationships in ATL were great. In Korra it was all breaking up and getting back together and finding someone new. There was no consistently. The whole love triangle was annoying. I despise love triangles. And Bolin kept dancing around to different women. The best love story in the book was Bolin and Opal. It reminded me of Sokka and Suki. Even worse, I hated the end. It was random, ridiculous, and kind of gross. There's no beauty in a relationship like that. Probably because that's not how it was intended. But besides that the whole scene felt like the Nick higher ups were shoving ideas and sexual propaganda down our throats. I was sad it ended that way. </span><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:Helvetica,sans-serif;"></span></p>
