Or in Book 1: Air, when Aang gave Korra visions that allowed her to deduce Tarrlok's connection to Yakone. What if some other catastrophe related to a past Avatar happens in Korra's era and she had no knowledge of how to stop it?

<p>And it is because of that why it was such a big loss. Now that the cycle has essentially been rebooted, the stakes are higher. But you also fail to acknowledge that times have changed since The Rift took place. Now humans live in harmony with the spirits because Korra realized that being the bridge between the two worlds no longer benefits either world. And now that humans and spirits have learned to empathize with each other, it's less likely that there will be many major conflicts between the two groups.
</p><p>Also, Wan didn't have any past lives to rely on and he did a fine job. Now Korra is in his position but with more experience.
