I actually enjoyed that adaptation of Guyver far more than that shite Dragon Ball: Evolution. But then again, I thought it was so bad, it was good. DBE was just simply a cinematic abortion of a film. Yeah, Goku-a damn galaxy buster-always struck me as an emo teen high school student. :/ How you turn a naive, good natured fighting genius into a high school student is beyond me. I'm surprised 'Roshi' didn't have a regular pet turtle in the film. Maybe he did, though I didn't care enough to pay attention. Not even the effects were decent in DBE. Thank goodness the director of that 'film' never touched the Avatar series. I hope western movie studios never touch Shaman King. Imagine what they would turn Yoh Asakura and Hao Asakura into.

Alright, I'll throw another name into the hat: Hideo Kojima. Imagine the level of detail in terms of military tactics. I could imagine him turning Avatar into something darker like Kentaro Miura's Berzerk series.

Yeah, writing books are a bit different from writing screenplays and comics. I never wrote a screenplay, and I could only imagine how hard it would be for me to turn say, a 220k word novel into a far smaller screenplay.

Just out of curiosity, which mental illness do you harbor? </div> Schizoaffective Disorder, Depression and the worst for me is the paranoia, but I'll leave it at that.

I just did a quick read through. Although there are some descriptions and exposition that slow down the action, adjectives that could be replaced by stronger verbs and some info dumps, I'm pretty sure an editor can help with that. I wrote a science fantasy novel, so I know what a good editor can do for one's work. I wish he didn't go with fantasy that is quite medieval European (or Italian Renaissance). I wish he could have stretched his imagination a bit further. Maybe he can make it work, though.

Did Bryan or Michael ever read Osamu Tezuka's Buddha series?

Although the anime movie version of the series was released after the Avatar series, the original version of the Buddha manga started in the 70's. With a cursory glimpse at the manga and the movies, I could tell Bryke was at least somewhat inspired by Osamu Tezuka's work. It's not just Siddhartha who seems a little like Aang, but Prince Virudhaka has a few parallels/contrasts to Prince Zuko as well, among other characters. Still, there were a few contrasts in character between Aang and Siddhartha (though Buddha has source material older than Tezuka's rendition). Given his character, I doubt Aang would care as much about overindulgence, for example.

Speaking of Avatar: The Last Airbender, did anyone else ever hear of the Buddha series by the legendary Osamu Tezuka? The manga series started in the 70's I believe. There was a recent anime series, and it looked epic. I wonder if Bryke were influenced by him and the series.
