First of all (from the last comments), creating wood things or the summoning of forests was not a concept invented in 'Naruto'..It comes from old classic RPG and literature...

For what i remember, the 'element' on the Avatar world have a more easy or 'correct' identification (at least in my opinion) to the elements of the Bon Tradition, Air, Fire, Water, Earth and Space.. As Tenzin (not the Dalai Lama (the current Dalai Lama's first name is also 'Tenzin' XD..) said:

"Physical properties are assigned to the elements: earth is solidity; water is cohesion; fire is temperature; air is motion; and space is the spatial dimension that accommodates the other four active elements. In addition, the elements are correlated to different emotions, temperaments, directions, colors, tastes, body types, illnesses, thinking styles, and character. From the five elements arise the five senses and the five fields of sensual experience; the five negative emotions and the five wisdoms; and the five extensions of the body. They are the five primary pranas or vital energies. They are the constituents of every physical, sensual, mental, and spiritual phenomenon."

Therefore, in a 'logical' sense.. The woodbending would ('is') very possible.. But i suppose it would be much more of a 'spiritual skill' and neary impossible to common benders.. It would be more possible for a 'typical non-bender' to discover himself as a 'wood bender' or 'bender of vegetals' (one that could command vegetals, things such as creating giant controllable monster plants (real monster plants, etc..) or really bending the plants to his will, etc..)..

For an example, 'plants' and some other phenomena/creatures, in classic RPGs, for 'elemental' purposes, are treated as "composite elementals".. So, it would be possible, but, it would be possible for a person that IS a woodbender 'by spirit' (a person which is spiritually connected to the plants, etc..) and not a bender of the 'material' (regular) elements, etc...
