When I say the greatest it doesn't mean the most powerful. Power and greatness are completely different. The most powerful bender is someone whose power excels the power of others. The greatest bender doesn't need to be the most powerful. I mean, he can, but that doesn't make him great. What makes him great is the impact on bending world( new techniques, new sub-skills).
Okay, I just wanted to explain what "the greatest bender" means.
In my opinion, the greatest bender of all time is Iroh. He invented lightning redirection by studying waterbenders. He taught us that there are no firebending or waterbending styles, there are only bending styles. Good example is when Korra moved like airbender to dodge attacks from three other benders in Pro-bending match while using water to attack, or when Zuko fought with Azula in last episode of Book 3. He also entered the spirit world after his death. Also, they don't call you Dragon of the west for no reason.
So, what do you think, who is the greatest bender of all time and why?
Both have a mostly hard magic system, not even considered magic by its users, with notable exceptions to the rules established early on.
The main character is a young boy who is himself one of those notable exceptions.
Child characters witness some really disturbing stuff, for kids! They're also child soldiers! Yay!
The main character has a sidekick who feels insecure about not being as good at magic as him.
Surprisingly thoughtful disability representation
The main character's love interest is a femme with an unstereotypical specialty in mechanical engineering.
A fire specialist appears to be the villain at first, but later he's on the same side as the good guys.
Cute hybrid animals! :D
It's going to be a long series of threads. So if you want me to ruin your day grab some popcorns.
I wished to share my progress, maybe at the best to give you some ideas. Anyways I might be abandoning my work its been far too long since I had started it and I didn't do enough justice.
Actually I have a lot say but it's just an abstract summary of what I had intended and the starting somewhat closely mirrors The Search.
3. Sokka:"it's a special knot! That counts as knowledge."
Wan Shi Tong: "You're not very bright, are you?"
2. Azula: "I'm sorry it has to end this way, brother."
Zuko: "No you're not."
And my favourite,
Huu: "Pants are an illusion. And so is death."
