Influences on the Avatar franchise

I was recently rewatching a great show (Neon Genesis Evangelion). I also know that the creators watched it, as King Bumi is based off of an Evangelion and Hei-Bai is based off of an angel.

While rewatching it, I noticed a lot of similarities between Azula and Asuka, and I was wondering if anyone else who watched NGE also had the same thought that Azula might be slightly inspired by Asuka. Cause the similarities are there:

• Both want to be the best and show signs of narcissism

• Both have awful parents

• Both have mommy issues

• Both have a large mental breakdown near the end of the show

• Both have a fear of loneliness

• Both try to control the group they are in

• Both are very confident in themselves on the outside

• Both have similar-ish names (they replaced the s and the k with a z and an l)

• Both have very bad times with men

• Both want to be older then they are

• Both need psychiatric help that has not been given to them

• Both have a very weird-ish introspection moment (Azula's happens in a comic though)

They do look different though. Still, I believe Asuka had some influence on Azula.

Hello everybody, this is kind of related to my facts series but kind of original at the same time. I'm going to talk about chakras, in both the real world and in the Avatar series. I am starting with an introduction post and then I am going to write separate posts about each of the seven chakras. By that I mean the seven chakras shown in the series, as there are actually more than seven chakras.

I was actually very knowledgeable of chakras before I even watched the series. However, I am more familiar with the New Age beliefs regarding chakras than I am about the Hindu traditions regarding them which is what the series based the concept of chakras on. As such, there are bound to be some differences. So please feel free to correct me if I make a mistake but do not come after me with torches and pitchforks.

One big part of the concept of chakras that the series does not touch upon is the fact that chakras can also be overactive. This is usually caused by other chakras being underactive or blocked. Let's go back to the pool metaphor that Guru Pathik used. When the pools are clogged up and blocked up, the water cannot flow to them, so the other pools begin to overflow. This is what an overactive chakra is.

Let's start with the first chakra as an example. As this chakra deals with survival, one might be overcome with fear and having issues with their everyday lives if it is blocked while one with an open root (or earth) chakra will feel secure or grounded. One with an overactive earth chakra might be aggressive and even have a lust for power. Remember that the key is balance. That is also why I do not think that Aang should have had to let go of all earthly attachment. It's okay to not be too attached but at the same time neglecting the physical world completely would actually block some of the lower chakras.

There also are more than seven chakras, though the ones touched upon in the series are the main seven. Pathik never said that those were the only chakras so I wouldn't say that the series got this wrong but it was still something I wanted to mention anyway. Some of these chakras actually lie outside of the body. It is believed that there are chakras on each of one's hands and feet. They mainly deal with energy manipulation, which could still have a connection with bending in the Avatar universe. Some also believe that there is a 'ground chakra' located below your feet (even lower than the first chakra) and an eighth and ninth chakra located about your head. These beliefs honestly may vary from person to person but I at least believe in the chakras in one's hands and feet.

Hello fellow Avatar fans!

I was wondering about the nature of air in the avatar universe when I found this:

• Early Japan: the five "godai" are earth, water, fire, air, + void/heaven/ether

• Everything in the universe is perceived to be a manifestation of these five units; nothing exists solely one element or another, but rather as combinations of all five. Each element is associated with one or more distinct attributes.

• Earth (stubbornness, physicality, stability) gives substance; water (emotion, defensiveness, adaptability) holds things together; fire (passion, aggression) heats or transforms; wind/air (benevolence, compassion, evasiveness) causes movement; void/sky/ether (power, creativity, spontaneity) is a creative force.

And I was like: "this is exactly like in avatar!". I kept looking at the attributes lf air and I decided to look at the Air Nomads page. The words "compassion" and "benevolence" are not said even once.

I was thinking about including it in the wiki but I wasn't sure if it would be accepted.

What do you think?

So my mother and I are having this argument. I'm Korean you see, and my mom when she watched Avatar she feels offended, because she thinks they mix up all these Asian cultures. (Yes, she has seen the whole thing). But I think Avatar is a great way to represent Asian cultures. I don't want to force her into liking it of course, because she is entitled to her own opinion. What do you guys think?

I know the bending styles are are influenced by real-life martial arts and sometimes different individuals' bending styles are influenced by different martial arts (eg. Toph).

I understand Airbending is influenced by Bagua, and it's also been suggested Aang's specific style is also sometimes said to take influences from Aikido.

Usually I am quite bad at noting the differences between styles of benders of the same element. But I felt it was particularly notable to me as to how Zaheer's movements varied compared to other airbenders (note, when he had to "be the leaf"). Was a specific martial art taken as influence for his style, and if so what is it?

People say that the fire nation are japanese due to their clothing ships ad castles but the armor they wear are chinese instead of samurai armor and zhao's name is not japanese but chinese

The Boulder was obviously based on The Rock (interestingly enough voiced by Mick Foley). If you could choose a Wrestler as an inspiration; who would you pick? Who would be the best choices and what Element could they Bend? (If they do Bend)

I would have a character based on Kane and he would be a Firebender. Maybe call him "Blaze" or something.

What would you do?

I read that LOK(book 4) writers were been inspired by Stars Wars universe, it's true or not?

If this is true can you send me proofs?
