I like Korra. I think she’s an interesting and complex character who has a lot going for her. But the rest of Team Avatar? Mako, Bolin, and Asami? They’re remarkably flat and boring. Asami is the flat side character who always has bad stuff happen to her, Bolin is the flat funny guy who somehow wasn’t able to figure out that he had been spending years working for a pretty clear fascist, and Mako is the flat guy who is unlikeable. These characters don’t have interesting traits or quirks, they don’t have interesting conflicts, they’re just sort of there, hogging valuable screen time. It’s like if the Gaang consisted of Aang and three slightly altered copies of Suki.
