I recently have been re-reading the kyoshi novels, and it feels very refreshing revisiting that storyline. I love the flying opera company idea, (especially lao ge), and it's amazing to see how kysoshi started out as blunt but still a little unsure of her role in the world. To see her develop into the avatar we saw in ATLA, a bold, confident, and knowladgeble woman, it is really cool too see the development every step of the way.
I also love how she at first did not know how to use her iconic war fans, but as the jorney progressed, she became better at using them.
This, to me, seems like kind of a metaphor for her confidence in her avatarhood. At first, she had those avatar powers, but was unsure of how to use them, when to use them, and what her role was in the world (just like she didn't know how to use the war fans), but later, as she forms friendships and relationships, an gets more expirience, she becomes confident in her avatarhood (just like she becomes confident in her use of the war fans).
Another thing I remembered about while re-reading was how her mother, and air nomad, betrayed the air nomads and want off to live a different life. I wonder if in the future we will see incedints like this happen with the air nomads, and maybe even a group of outcast nomads would form a new group of people, a new type of air nomad. These are all thoughts that got sparked while I was reading about kyoshi's upbringing.
I like the earthbending tecnhique with the stone stepping, and thought that that tecnique should be showed off more, because i think it is a really cool idea. It takes earthbending, a blunt and stubborn element, and turns it elegent, and light, so that the user can fly into the air with ease.
