@Korrazula go to the energybending page and scroll to the sources at the bottom. One of them directs to an archived page from the old Nickelodeon website. There is says that some previous Avatar’s knew how to energybend.

What?! That's ridiculous! Aang and Korra are the only Avatars who can do that and that's a canon! Think about this. If the previous Avatars had energybending wouldn't they tell Aang to just remove Ozai's bending but instead they were telling him that killing is an only solution🤷

It just said previous avatars. Perhaps they were all early enough that Aang had no connection to them?
