Aang was able to do that as the Avatar, it was not an airbending technique. There are similarities for sure, but the technique Jinora used is different.

There are numerous occasions in the show where it is made clear that Jinora has a strong connection to the spirit world. Where was it stated that the opening of the portals made everyone spiritual, and that this was the reason everyone could see Jinora?

I don't consider it an unfair comparison at all. If your opinion is that she was undeserving of the tattoos, that is fine, but again that is a different conversation. She did get them, she is an airbending master, and she is the youngest. These are all objective facts.

The tattoos indicate someone as being an airbending master. This is well established within the lore of the franchise. Also, as I have already said, Jinora was given her tattoos for creating a new technique, not for mastering the 36 tiers (same as Aang). You seem to have missed this point in my explanation.

Let's make it easier, who master airbending the fastest and the youngest.

I'm VERY late to this conversation, but I have to agree with @Rachelamber1 for the most part. Yes, Jinora got her tattoos at an earlier age. Yes, Jinora became an airbending master younger than Aang (in age, NOT in skill). Let me explain.

She wasn't technically deserving of them in the sense that she had to prove and beg constantly for them. Aang never did this, and was already surpassing those 2 or 3x his age. Yes, he had the naturally talent due to being the avatar (and usually avatars are naturally more gifted in their given element), but he's far more a master than Jinora will ever be, regardless of how old he or she were when they received their tattoos.

They both used their airbending mastery intuitively in situations that had to make them think, but Jinora, I feel, definitely needed more fine tuning. Also, like @Rachelamber1 had already said, the standards to achieve mastery of this element were different for Aang's and Jinora's respective time periods. Therefore, it's pretty clear that Aang is FAR MORE skilled, naturally gifted, and more of a master than Jinora. She's the youngest to get her tattoos and to be a master, yes. BUT Aang is the youngest to have truly honed and master his element simply because he's actually had more skill from the start.

And while what I said may sound dumb to some, you can have two people be masters in their craft, but there will always be someone who is better than you anyway. This is the case for Aang and Jinora. He's definitely more of a master than her, and that's why I think he's technically the youngest ACTUALLY DESERVING airbending master.

I agree with this. Jinora was no where near the level of Tenzin at any point in the show. Aang at 12 was superior to even an adult Tenzin. The only difference between them is maturity. Aang was goofy and silly cause he was 12. Tenzin was hardheaded and serious. A 12 year old Aang would put a smack down on a 40+ year old Tenzin.

Like they said Jinora kept begging and begging to be a master. And in all reality Tenzin didn't really make her one because she was a master at airbending but more because of how mature she was and how she handled everything.

We also see in Aangs flashbacks of his tike at the temple and with Monk Gyatso when Aang was 10 that he was already a master Airbender but the council (they had to fully decide when someone could get their tattoo) said he had to have more training strictly due to the fact he was the Avatar. Again Monk Gyatso (the most powerful, wisest and highest Monk of the entire air nation and Aangs personal caretaker) belived he was a master and surpassed even his airbending master teachers.

Overall, technicality wise Jinora is the youngest. But Jinora was only made a master because if her dad who was the only one who could give her that recognition as he was the only other master alive when normally it would be a coucnil of Air Nomad Monks to come to that decision. And because it was her father there is lots of bias... which is probably why he gave in and had sympathy for her.

This is not true of Monk Gyatso and Aang however. Yes, Monk Gyatso was close to Aang. Aangs father figure. They were essentially the most important people to each other for Aangs entire life with him. However, he was still a master. Think if it as Iroh in a way. If Iroh said Zuko was a firebending master I wouldn't think there was any bias because he completely wants whats best for him and as we see is not afraid to tell Zuko he isn't ready when he isn't and that he is when he is. Dame applies to Monk Gyatso.

I wish we could have seen more of Monk Gyatso. I know if he was still alive he would be a grand lotus along side Iroh.
