Ok so Toph wanted to wear earrings. What be the problem here?

Because she can do what she wants. Perhaps they are made of rock/clay?

They are just earrings, earrings have never hurt anybody. Also she's like 13 and most 13 year olds like wearing earrings.

If they are made from an earth material she could also use them as a weapon.

I think it's more likely their made from clay, just by looking at it.

I thought it was part of her headband.

I guess they could be weapons but that's not a reason to keep them from her.
