Hi all! It’s AOAS again!
I just wanted to let you guys know about some minor changes to the Discussion Boards that are now in place as of the proposals passing through our War Room. I’m here to explain what’s happening and to answer any questions you have!
Closing low effort posts that don't encourage discussion:
Up until now, we’ve set the parameters of acceptable posts to ‘Avatar-related’. However, in light of the decreasing quality of discussions on the Boards lately, it has been deemed necessary to change this. Low effort posts that don’t incite constructive and healthy discussion will now also be locked at a moderator’s discretion. This is to ensure that the quality we pride ourselves on returns to what it has and can be.

Moving all memes to a designated meme thread:
This is something that users have been discussing for a while now, including here on the boards. Creating a meme thread will help to declutter the boards as well as creating an easy place to find memes. From a moderation standpoint, it will also make it easier to find inappropriate and/or offensive memes, which otherwise slip through the cracks at times.

Changing the approach to users going off-topic:
This is a change to how we react to users repeatedly going off topic on the Discussion Boards. Too many threads lately have had to be locked due to one or two users straying away from the topic of the post. This is unfair and punishes other users who were being constructive as well as the perpetrators. In reaction to this, we have decided that rather than locking whole posts, we will instead delete individual comments and warn the individual users who are off-topic. Repeat offenders may receive official warnings on their walls and in extreme cases perhaps even a block. This ensures that users conforming to the guidelines are able to continue as normal, and not be punished for other users’ disruptive behaviour.
Creating a weekly list of high quality or interesting posts:
This will be fun! A moderator run project, we’ll be starting up a weekly/fortnightly post where we curate and highlight some posts we think have been constructive and impressive over the last few days. This could be fanart, interesting discussions and much more! Also, you will be able to suggest posts you have liked in the comments of previous posts. Feel free to suggest some in the comments of this as well!
