<p>Hey,why is it that in ATLA Fire Nation characters have Korean/Chinese/Southeast Asian like names such as Ozai,Iroh,Zuko,and Azula,but in LoK they have Japanese names like Hiroshi,Mako,and Asami?And the Water Tribes have Japanese/Chinese like names such as Sokka,Katara,Hakoda,Yue,and Bato,but in LoK they have Inuit names like Unalaq,and Tonraq?And why is it that in LoK people have names that sound like non Asian/Inuit names such as Varrick,Bryke,and Amon?Any reasons for this change?

Hiroshi, Mako and Asami are people from the United Republic, NOT from the Fire Nation. <p>Well,that's not a problem,as Tonraq is from the Southern Water tribe,and Unalaq is from the Northern Water Tribe.They are both from similar areas weather wise,just like Inuits and Alaskan natives. </p>

<p>Maybe Japanese sounding surnames are normal in the Fire Nation, we haven't heard many. </p>

<p>I dont know it was that conciousess of a decision. While each nation has a main real life inspiration the creators take inspiration from various other countries/cultures for some things.
</p><p>Also keep in mind that irl Mako was named after Iroh's actor, so even in a theoretical situation where Mako wasnt a japanese name they still would have given it to the character.

<p>Bryke is the name of the show's creators, not a character name. the Water Tribes are based on the Inuit, so that explains Unalaq and Tornaq. Ozai and Zuko could pass for Japanese names as well and I've heard the FN is inspired by Imperialist Japan, so characters from there having Japanese-inspired names makes sense, though, like someone else said, The Satos and Mako are from the URN, not the FN. I don't know about Varrick or Amon
