<p>I guess Siege of the North is when I finally realized this wasn't just another silly action/adventure series that might occasionally show hidden depths. This was a fully fledged mythos where the plot was going to actually matter, the characters were actually going to develop, there would actually be in depth world building, & the show would actually make some intelligent commentary. Though I certainly did not object to the good action/comedy. Also, I really liked bending being grounded in martial arts & the physical "elements," rather than characters just vaguely gesturing & unleashing whatever crazy powers they wanted. </p> <div class="quote"><i>Who was your favorite character and why?</i></div>

<p>Probably the 4 part Sozin's Comet, since it brought everything full circle & had a bit of everything the series did well from comedy to action to character development & so on. </p> <div class="quote"><i>What scene in the series gave thug at your heart strings? <p>Aang going Avatar State against Ozai & just blowing him the Hell away. It's pretty much the most powerful bending we would see until <i>Book 3: Change</i> paid homage to it. </p> <div class="quote"><i>What was the most shocking moment to you and why?</i></div>

<p>Well, it's been a time sink with me joining this Wiki & doing 2 RPs based on it, a one-off fan fiction, & a larger fan fiction universe. Other than that, not much. I was in high school when it started, & I'm really not the type to make life choices based on TV shows anyway. </p>

<p>1. I don't really remember, tbh. It was definitely sometime in the last decade. </p><p>2. Again, don't remember. </p><p>3. How perfect everything was. The pacing, the humor, the seriousness, all of it. I also liked how unique the premise was. </p><p>4. Zuko, because of his complexity as a character overall. Sokka, Momo, Iroh, Azula, Suki, and Toph are close seconds/thirds/fourths/fifths/sixths/sevenths, however. </p><p>5. There are a multitude of episodes I love. I can't really pick one. </p><p>6. Not really. I'm not that type of person. But like Neo, The Tale of Iroh had my eyes water a bit, tbh. </p><p>7. The Day of Black Sun and Sozin's Comet. Awesome examples of mid-season specials and series finales. </p><p>8. Finding out firebenders can lightningbend. Well, not really, I just couldn't pass up the oppurtunity for a shocking pun <small>(*crickets chirp*)</small> Anyway, next question... </p><p>9. I never had a favorite pair in particular, but I always thought Sokka and Suki were a perfect match. </p><p>10. Avatar is still my favorite show, and because of it Avatar Wiki wouldn't exist. There's a thinker. </p>

I don't think anybody is as universally beloved like Iroh.</p> <p style="font-weight:normal;line-height:22px;">What was your favorite episode and why?</p> <p style="font-weight:normal;line-height:22px;">Zuko Alone is my favorite, the insight into Zuko's past and the almost tear jerking ending where Zuko is just detested by everyone in the village and he rides off into the sunset almost like a western. It's still one of the most powerful imagery in the show.</p> <p style="font-weight:normal;line-height:22px;">What scene in the series gave thug at your heart strings? Did you cry? If so, do you still cry or feel when you watch it?</p> <p style="font-weight:normal;line-height:22px;">When Zuko reunited with Uncle Iroh, enough said.</p> <p style="font-weight:normal;line-height:22px;">What was the most epic moment to you and why?</p> <p style="font-weight:normal;line-height:22px;">Aang entering the Avatar state and annihilating Ozai, that entire fight was the most epic thing put on TV.</p> <p style="font-weight:normal;line-height:22px;">What was the most shocking moment to you and why?</p> <p style="font-weight:normal;line-height:22px;">The Fall of Ba Sing Se, I've rarely seen a time when the heroes of a show actually lose so to see Aang pretty much dead, the Earth Kingdom falling to the Fire Nation, and Zuko betraying Iroh, was pretty much the Empire Strikes Back of my childhood.</p> <p style="font-weight:normal;line-height:22px;">What was your favorite romance and why?</p> <p style="font-weight:normal;line-height:22px;margin-bottom:0px!important;">Kataang, it was so fucking cute aaahhh.</p> <p style="font-weight:normal;line-height:22px;margin-bottom:0px!important;">And finally, if it did, how much has Avatar influenced and shaped you in your life?</p> <p style="font-weight:normal;line-height:22px;margin-bottom:0px!important;">Avatar inspired me to get into writing and drawing, animation and philosophy. It's one of those shows that gets me nostalgic everytime I watch it. It makes me feel like a kid again.</p>

<p>What I loved about Zuko was just how perfectly done his characterization throughout the series was. Besides from Aang, he was the one who defined the show in many ways. He was beautifully done. </p>

Zuko Alone is a very strong contender for my 2nd favorite episode.

<p>Now that you mention it, my 2nd favorite would have to be the Storm. For the contrasts between Zuko and Aang and the insight behind what makes them what they were at that point. </p>

I was friends with these two brothers who were completely into the show and it was always awkward entering conversations with them about the show because I had absolutely no idea what it was about. I remember they were totally obsessed with Zuko. I decided to watch the show, so I would have at least <i>some</i> idea of what they were talking about. Best choice I made that year.</p> <p style="line-height:22px;"><i>What was the first episode you've ever watched from Avatar?</i></p> <p style="line-height:22px;">Well, the <i>first first </i>episode I saw was The Runaway (it was when the show was still airing, or at least had only recently ended), on the TV at a cafe and I had, like, no idea what was going. I just remember seeing a girl jogging in place in a wooden cell. Then this other girl she was with said, "Um, what are doing you?" And the girl jogging replied eagerly "I'm making my own water!" "You're a genuis, a sweaty stinky genuis!" That scene always kind of stuck with me ever since.</p> <p style="line-height:22px;"><i>What appealed to you about Avatar?</i></p> <p style="line-height:22px;">I guess because it wasn't a lot like I had thought it was. Because of its anime-like style, I had expected it to be something a lot like Pokemon and Naruto, two shows that I had disliked because of their boring plot and dull animation. But Avatar wasn't at all like that. It was really engaging and the animation was really good. It quickly became my favorite show.</p> <p style="line-height:22px;"><i>Who was your favorite character and why?</i></p> <p style="line-height:22px;">I think the first character I really favored was Azula. Whenever she appeared on the screen, I just kind of got really excited. She was a pretty interesting and thrilling character. But the Leaves From The Vine probably makes me shed tears the most.</p> <p style="line-height:22px;"> </p> <p style="line-height:22px;"><i>What was the most epic moment to you and why?</i></p> <p style="line-height:22px;">That moment in The Awakening when Aang says he failed, and then Roku comes in the storm and tells him that he hasn't failed and it was actually him who failed Aang. And then Yue enters the scene and tells Aang that he saved the world once and he'll save again. But he can't give up. That scene still gives me goosebumps. And that moment in Avatar Day when Kyoshi arrives was pretty epic, too.</p> <p style="line-height:22px;"><i>What was the most shocking moment to you and why?</i></p> <p style="line-height:22px;">When the Fire Nation had completely expected for the invasion. "FIRELORD OZAI, WHERE <i>ARE YOU?!"</i></p> <p style="line-height:22px;"><i>What was your favorite romance and why?</i></p> <p style="line-height:22px;margin-bottom:0px!important;">I don't really have a favored romance in the show. I'm pretty neutral on them all. </p> <p style="line-height:22px;margin-bottom:0px!important;"><i>And finally, if it did, how much has Avatar influenced and shaped you in your life?</i></p> <p style="line-height:22px;margin-bottom:0px!important;">Well, if I had never discovered Avatar, my eyesight probably wouldn't nearly as poor. But on the bright side, I really feel the show had been somewhat of a positive influence to my self-eestem and mentality as a child.</p>

<p>Oh, I just realized that I never answered the "why" part here. I guess I hadn't seen many things where the villain scores a huge victory at that point, & certainly not in a children's show. I hadn't actually watched <i>Empire Strikes Back</i> until much later, but even then, I don't think it really compares. The Fire Nation really completely dominated at that point, they'd overthrown the Earth Kingdom government, technically defeated the Avatar State, & like I said Aang wasn't just knocked out, he had to be medically revived & had wounds that stayed with him for the rest of the series. Those were all things I hadn't expected even from that show. </p><p>I believe I had already watched Fullmetal Alchemist (2003) at that point, but firstly that aired on [adult swim], & secondly I still can't really think of anything that compares. Hughes's death to me is more of that show's "Leaves From The Vine." The devastation of Lior was tragic, but not this seemingly all-consuming victory by the villains. </p>
