<p>A lot of fans would have been ticked off if he died though. And with Korrasami happening in the end, a lot of fans would have accused Bryke of killing off Mako so that Korrasami could work. As a Korrasami fans, I am glad to see that the pairing worked and wouldn't have wanted it to happen in Mako's expense. </p>

<p>I agree, personally. Killing off Mako would've been interesting I guess especially in terms of how it affected poor Bolin, but it really wouldn't have added anything to the scene itself, and Bolin's heroic rescue of his big bro was awesome, so I like how it ended. Plus, there's the fact that it would have inflamed the Makorra fandom even more, as you pointed out. </p>

<p>That's actually a pretty good question. I mean, it was pretty severely burned all the way up to the elbow, so I imagine it's gonna take a while to heal. Of course, his ex-girlfriend <i>is </i>a healer trained by the greatest healer in the world, so it might not be as long as you'd expect. </p>

<p>Yes, they would but I would argue that Korrasami would have happened whether Mako lived or died. See, I'm in the camp of "Mako knew of Korrasami back in Book 3" so his sacrifice would have been the male version of "Unrequited Tragic Maiden" trope, in which the maiden willingly sacrifice herself so that the object of her affections can be safe with the one he really loves. Mike and Bryan first used this trope in Book 1 when Lin Beifong sacrificed herself so that Tenzin can escape with his family. That's why her scenes (and music) is called "Beifong's sacrifice". </p><p>Similarly, Mako was also willing to die for Korra (and Asami), knowing he has no chance to end up with either of them. <p>Yes, but the scene was brief and simple, something that could be easily added as part of the last-minute rework at Studio Mir. On the other hand, Mako would have died had Bolin not come back for Mako (even though Mako "promised" he will get out as soon as he could) so you could argue his sacrifice was undone by intervention from <s>Nick</s> Bolin. </p> <div class="quote"><i>Teddybearlover wrote:

<p>Mako had a few burns, and maybe a broken bone. His arm was not blown up by a psychic grenade. </p>

<p>Mako's arm was basically burned from fingertips to elbow, but it was still there, so it could be healed - especially by a healing-trained waterbender. Sparky Sparky Boom Man, I always thought, blew off his arm entirely. </p>
