AnimeSloth wrote:There was quite a build up! In Turf Wars, Korra says that she has loved Asami since Asami took her race-car driving. Though Korra had a relationship with Mako after that, she still loved Asami. She only wrote to Asami those three years because she loved Asami and didn't know what to say to Mako and Bolin. I ship Korrasami because it is LGBT+, but the ship does make sense! Also, they fight much less then they fought with Mako.

To be accurate, Korra didn't say that she fell in love with Asami after the race-car bit, but rather that she realized that Asami was just as intense as she was and was relieved that there was someone who was just as intense as she was. I don't think she fell in love with Asami after that race but rather after her breakup with Mako.

At the start of Change Korra and Asami start spending a lot more time together, about 75% of their screen time in Book 3 is spent together and in that we see the two having a much healthier relationship then either of them ever did with Mako. We see them eat together, train together, fight together and all the while it's shown that the two work together perfectly.

By the midway point of Season 3 the popularity of Korrasami Skyrocketed and became one of the most popular ships in the fandom and began to rival the popularity of Zutara with many fans even seeing it as the true successor for Zutara. At the end of Season 3, when we see Asami taking care of Korra and the scene implying that Asami has been Korra's personal caretaker and is standing alongside Korra and her family in the final scene many began to wonder if Korrasami might actually become canon.

Then came Balance and, in hindsight, it was obvious that Korrasami was going to become canon. Asami is shown to be more exited for Korra's return then anyone else, Asami is the only person Korra writes back to, we get a bit of light flirting when they meet back up in Chapter 7 and Asami bringing Korra tea as an excuse to talk to her.

Today, these moments may seem rather tamed after Steven Universe and She-Ra decided to being a LOT more overt about their LGBT relationships but at the time, believe it or not, most people felt that Korrasami was to In-Your-Face about how much these two were in love with each other. Times change, and we change with them, and what was seen as to overt is now seen as to subtle.
