Amon has the same problem with his ideology as most fanatics, he makes broad generalizations that represent only a very small minority of the target group, then proceeds to demonize the entire group for the actions of a very few. It would be as if someone came forth and claimed that amputees are discriminated against due to not having all their limbs, and thus everyone else in the world should have their limbs chopped off to make things fair for everyone. That, in essence, was what his plan was.

Overall, I would wager that 90% of all benders are every bit as good and decent as everyone else in the world, regardless of their bending. That small minority who do abuse their bending are, unfortunately, far more likely to draw attention to themselves, thus creating the illusion that all benders victimize and oppress non-benders, and that all benders are elitist and have massive economic advantages over non-benders, even though that really wasn't shown to be the case.
