I doubt that there would be a next Dark Avatar. Considering what Korra looked like when she fused with Raava, I think the form Unalaq took when Korra defeated him would be the "Dark Avatar Spirit." Chances are it wouldn't be too different between the Avatar and Dark Avatar in that if the spirit is bested, the reincarnation cycle ends.

However, Unalaq ripped Raava right out of Korra and proceeded to pummel her until she disintegrated thus destroying the Avatar cycle. Korra on the other hand used the waterbending purification thing on Unalaq/Vaatu. The two didn't necessarily seperate nor do we really know what happened to them both.

True, we don't know what happened to them, but the Avatar does not need to be separated from Raava to put the Avatar spirit in danger. The most prominent example is in the Book 2 finale of the original series. I don't think Aang was disconnected from Raava/the Avatar spirit like Korra was when he was shot with Azula's lightning, and that nearly ended the Avatar cycle.

From what I gathered, Vaatu is inside Raava, which is inside Korra. However, we don't know if the Avatar will reincarnate (but it probably will at the end of Korra's life time).

Hespia Klarerin wrote: them the question is, will the next avatar be the raava-avatar or the vaatu-avatar?

I'm betting it'll still be Raava-Avatar. I mean, both Unalaq and Vaatu got beaten pretty hard, and they won't be coming back anytime soon.

I think the avatar cycle will surely continue because Korra merged with Raava again at the end of the finale. Raava is inside Korra, and Vaatu is a small part of Raava. So the new avatar will almost surely be just an avatar with Raava in him/her. Raava will carry Vaatu into the new avatar but Vaatu won't be able to do anything.

I hope that they made it soo on purpose, so that we'll have something to watch in Book 3!!!, But on the other hand I personaly hope that Unalaq and the Dark Avatar are gone for good.

Unalaq was technically killed while in the "anti" Avatar State, so his cycle of one ended when it started, so Vaatu has to find a new host when the next Harmonic Convergence comes.
