Okay, first off, Mako never cheated on Asami. The kiss way back in episode 5 of the first book was entirely Korra's initiative, and he was too surprised to pull away instantly. And we can easily assume that by the end of the first book Asami and Mako are officially broken up. Yes, she got the short end of the stick, and I commend Asami for keeping her cool through the entire love triangle mess, but none of it was majorly any one person's fault. They were mostly just victims of circumstance and their own feelings.
<p>What's wrong with him rekindling that relationship after he officially broke things off with Korra? He's not leading Asami on, she came right out and displayed her feelings for him. Mako's acting level-headed, focused, and dedicated to his job, putting his duties to Republic City first over any personal relationships. This is a major improvement from how erratic and bull-headed he was acting near the end of the first book.
