<p>I wouldn't say he's a villain, we've still got a few episodes to figure out his motivations aside from power. Even if he is a villain, at least we got it out of the way early instead of dragging us around for 8 out of 12 episodes like they did with Tarrlok. </p><p>Okay, you've established he's a villain, now make him a sympathetic villain, or if he's still unsympathetic, at least make him compelling as a villain. </p>

<p>I have a feeling he knows about 'something' that is about to happen, like metaphorical storm clouds gathering. Unfortunately he has taken extreme steps to prepare for this possible outcome. </p>

<p>He has kids. Plenty of sympathy to be explored. Then there's the whole 'You've served your purpose' and his Spirit Waterbending, so I think they've set him up okay. Like Tarrlok he seems like a character who starts out generic and then hits his stride mid series.  </p>

Typical powerhungry character. But I do think his ambition is letting him look like a bigger antagonist than he'll actually be.

I say I thought Amon was scary lunatic but seening what Unalaq did he even more worse then him.

<p>I thought that Amon was more threatening until towards the end. He was really more compelling, though. Unalaq was almost completely depraved, with only a hint of a deeper goal. </p><p>Also, everyone saying he'd be upstaged is hilarious in hindsight. </p>
