<p>Okay, you've established he's a villain, now make him a sympathetic villain, or if he's still unsympathetic, at least make him compelling as a villain.

<p>He has kids. Plenty of sympathy to be explored. Then there's the whole 'You've served your purpose' and his Spirit Waterbending, so I think they've set him up okay. Like Tarrlok he seems like a character who starts out generic and then hits his stride mid series.
