If the ultimate form of waterbending is bloodbending and fire is lightning and earth is metal what would be the one for Air bending.

<p>There is the fact that people need air to breathe. So the Ult. for air bending could involve messing with that. No air even momentarily is panicking and could interfere with fire bender breath control. Held longer it could cause someone to suffocate. </p>

<p>astral projection isn't the only airbending sub-skill and I wouldn't think that a passive technique would be the ultimate form.

He didn't astral project. He just entered the spirit world.

<p>The whole astral projection thing has only been seen being used by Jinora who is very strong connection to the spirits that doesn't yet make it an air bending sub skill since we don't even know whether there is any air involved. to me that looks like she's just projecting her spirit. And Aiwei was also very atuned to the spirit world, not everyone can do it since he, Zaheer, Jinora and Iroh are the first people we actually see accomplish this feat that arent the avatar.

<p>Astral Projection seems to be a promising technique for me. I don't see the point on why people are arguing that it is only for the benders who has strong spirituality. That made the bending unique. I mean NOT ALL fire bender can lightning bend, NOT ALL water bender can blood bend, NOT ALL earth bender can metal bend and NOT ALL airbenders can astral project. Air is the element that includes spirituality, it doesn't necessarily need an air for it to be called a sub-skill.

<p>Doesn't that just make it something differnet entirely? If there's no air included it can't be called an air bending sub-style. In all the other styles the have incorporated something of the basic element. Also the Astral Projection power helps grant access to the spirit world and look at Aiwei, an earthbender and metalbender, was able to project himself into the spirit world and only 3 others that aren't the avatar have been able to do that. Two maybe airbenders, Jinora and Zaheer, but one was a firebender, Iroh. And with the like of actual AIR being taken into account it would be a massive let down if this was air's sub-skill. Just because the Air Nomads were a passive people doesn't mean that the sub-style has to be. </p>

<p>the airbending sub-skill can and should be combative like maybe soundbending of scentbending although astral projection shouldn't count as the sub-skill.

A person can project his spirit into Spirit World through meditation but that's not the same thing with the airbending subskill. Jinora can project her spirit into the physical world, not Spirit World. It's the difference. Well actually she can do the both but the latter is no big deal when you're spiritual enough, but the first one is as it's a subskill. </p>

<p>Except Jinora's skill still doesn't involve the element of air at all. It's all on the spiritual side of things, hence the resistance to calling it a subskill of airbending. Even if the Air Nomads were the most spiritual of the nations, resulting in certain additional abilities for the most spiritually connected of their number, this doesn't automatically make those abilities airbending.
</p><p>I mean, if Jinora hadn't referred to her astral projection as an "airbender move" (which is about as suspect as Amon's statement that his abilities came from the spirits at this point), would anyone have associated it with airbending?
