Keeping this tab open as its in my Youtube's "Watch Later" so I'll give my comments after watching this.
It's a good show however they changed the core of the main characters which to me is a bit annoying. The whole sexism of Sokka is just nitpicking bullshit from haters when it wasn't an arc just a thing he had in the first four episodes.
However, I wasn't a fan that they didn't make Katara motherly and rejected the idea of healing. They only slightly changed the story, like Oma dying this time over Shu. Shu is a woman. Using smaller references from Book 2 into Book 1 like the minstrels they run into. The North is the distraction to capture Omashu, however, I guess that makes sense because they probably happened simultaneously.
The haters don't understand that it's a good way to attract new audiences. They're only concerned about themselves. Yes, it didn't honor it frame by frame, word for word for the same community. But not everyone likes cartoons so this a good way to introduce them into Avatarverse. It'd be a convincing way to get into getting them into watching the cartoons.
And another thing the success of this show is another reason to give more money to Avatar Studios. A failure of the show might be the reason to pull the plug on it.
@AvatarPhoenixGrey2 I guess we'll have to wait for a Q&A with Bryke to confirm, whether the Unanimity Project is the only way combustionbenders can be made or if Combustion Man's gift came from a rare mutation. I think both should be considered plausible.
@Minnichi You're right, there's only about like less than 10 active fanons that are actually active, have chapters, and are being constantly updated. The others in the category are dead before they even started.
That's what I was getting at when I told him to rename it to 'Fanon Showcase' and add the 'unofficial' to it. Just to keep it separate from the prestigious Fanon Awards.
@Minnichi I totally agree however, HoT and Fruipit have said we weren't doing one for last year because there wasn't enough activity on the wiki. With the amount of users we have right at this moment an unofficial showcase would be nice.
I suppose the Netflix live-action will bring users new and old to fill these halls again :'D.
I think calling it the 'Fanon Showcase' is likely a better title. To keep it separate from the Fanon Awards. I wanted to be a judge until I read one of the rules, unless there's the exception that I get nominated anyway and I choose to skip my vote for my stories to prevent a bias. Or if there are others who are willing to help judge and I remain only a participant.
@General Skywalker 1138 Remind us what FoD is? Fate of Destiny?
@Paladin78 You'd have to be a rollback member.
Alright it has been made.
Hey Janet, do you read any fan fiction of Avatar?
@Sunnythegaydragon I think this link would help you.
You're right Avatar could never, but if you're writing a fanon you should. I would interpret the cannibalism with something else like perhaps ritualistic slaying of beasts to please a bloodbending spirit, etc.
In my main fanon, I have an evil clan of bloodbenders live in an a floating ice fortress that's never in one location. If you're planning on doing something about a bloodbender village I'd look into researching that one indian tribe that cannibalizes people for religious purposes
That's the thing about fanon you gotta do your research on cultures they're based on. I went on the premise that because they're nomads, they shouldn't "marry" each other because of their free lifestyle. Also based on research ancient tibetan monks never married, the ancient tibetan people's also had fertility festivals and were commonly polyamorous and polysexual.
